My new gas tank is currently in the mail. When it's gets here I was thinking of running rubber fuel line all the way from the tank to the fuel pump. My current/original hard lines are rusty on the inside. Has anybody else done this? What would be the Cons? Thanks in advance.
You would actually be decreasing the size and flow of the original lines. Its not a very good idea to use rubber lines for that full length. They are meant for short runs. I'd replace the metal lines with new metal lines for strength and durability.
I replaced the entire fuel system in my truck, and used all rubber lines. I just routed it along the frame, basically where the original lines were. Cheaper than steel. Down sides- more vulnerable to damage and rupturing and need to be replaced every 8-10 years or so
Rubber lines should be replaced way more often than 8-10 years. We're talking about fuel here.
I ruptured my original metal line about 1.5 years ago. Bought new line from a place online, its soft so easy to bend the lines to fit what you need. Bought the line and the two end nipples for like $40 or so. Took like 45 minutes to be up and running again once the old line was out.
Rubber is only meant for short runs at the beginning and end of the line and should be replaced probably every other year or so to be safe. Again, we're talking about gasoline here, no need to take unnecessary risks.
When I get home I'll try to remember to see what the company name was, its slipping my mind at the moment.
