Factory Brake Controller wierdness
The problem started after pulling my friends trailer. I am not sure why we used it that day but my trailer was tied up or somewhere else and his was here. Long and short of it his brakes acted funny right away but we were in a hurry and I just dealt with it. Bad idea. At somepoint during the trip the TBC fault came on. It's come on every key on cycle since then.
More info. I have checked, double, and triple checked the wiring at the plug. I had a Tee in the wiring at the plug end to route my in bed plug to. No Wiring was Cut to do this. It spliced in between the 7pin on the back and the wiring harness feeding it.
My friend had borrowed my trailer while I was in Brazil for 2 months. When he had it he ended up cutting the brake wires as they were constantly locked while plugged in to his 2011 GMC 3500. Wierd because his horse trailer and my trailer are wired the same.
So I get the trailer rewired correctly. Find and replace the blown fuse under the dash and made good progress. The "trailer disconnected" message doesn't ding anymore and the trailer brakes are working like they should.
But I still get that damn TBC fault when I start the truck, trailer connected or not. I suppose I'll have to replace the control unit but think I might try to disasemble it and fix it first.
Anyone ever had this same group of events in regards to the controller?
I am hoping it's a simple fix. What are the thoughs ya'll have on this.
Ended up replacing the unit in the dash and it fixed the issue. FYI, the trailer brakes
worked as normal while getting the TBC Fault on the dash. If you find out how to fix the controller, I have an extra that has that issue.
