I have a 2.3 that was knocking hard, put a engine in re-manufactured by FORD that has less 1000 miles on it and have the same noise, tore down old engine and found a blown head gasket between 3 & 4, would that cause a spark knock like sound? and could that possibly be the same problem with my "new" engine?
The noises I've heard associated with a bad head gasket didn't resemble pinging or knocking. I'm guessing a different cause-and-effect is associated with your old engine. I'm also assuming an older 2.3L engine, I think folks refer to as a LIMA engine vs. the later model 2.3L (Duratec). You may want to add some key vehicle data to your signature line to help folks here identify what you drive. Lots of very knowledgable folks here that can help steer you to a good outcome.
Can lightning strike twice in a different engine? Maybe, but likely different causes to a similar symptom. Sounds timing related, shooting from the hip, but I have limited experience here. Hopefully others will chime in.
