B2600 2.2L engine
Does anyone know if this would work?
Thanks Jason
There are numerous differences between the carb'd engine and a f.i. engine as well as wiring differences and ECM differences. While it looks like it would be simple to put you present head on the other engine, you need to plug some holes in the block -distributor for one - and make new holes for a second Engine Coolant Temp. sensor.
Hi lilygirl. Welcome to FTE. This is a great site for all things Ranger.
I would suggest that you use the "Post New Thread" key on the Ranger page to list your issue. Taking your issue on someone else's thread results in possible responders from knowing what you concern is. Also, by listing your concern on someone else's thread creates confusion about to whom a reply belongs.
Take your truck to an auto parts store to get a free trouble code scan and then post the results here. That way we can be better able to help you out. A place like AutoZone or O'Reiley's are good places to try.
The main differences you are likely to find is that they will have different intake manifolds and sensors, and it is possible that the heads themselves are different too. But that is just a generalized guess based upon common differences between FI and carbed engines, but I could not telly ou specifically what is different on your engines.
For the record, the B2600 does not have a 2.2L engine, it has a 2.6L engine, and on that I know a little more about them differences as I used to own one.
Between the 2.6L Carbed engine and the 2.6L FI engine, lets start at the beginning. The carbed engine is a Mitsubishi 2.6L 8 valve SOHC engine. The FI is a Mazda 2.6L 12 valve SOHC engine. They are both based on the same block, but the FI engine has a Mazda cylinder head which by virtue of more valves, gets better flow, and in turn produces more power. Since they use the same block, they bolt to the same transmissions, but they are not the same engine, and for the most part are not really interchangeable. The 2.6L and the 2.2L are different engines, though I think they also use the same bolt pattern. For the most part, they are also not really interchangeable.
If you have a bad head gasket, I would pull the engine apart and rebuild it. Of course this depends on how badly you really want to keep the truck.
