I just buy a 1966 bronco that needs work. The guy i bought it from said the motor is the 170 6 cyl. But the transmission tag reads rat ce2 the tranfer case is the j shifter. What year is the transmission and what size motor does the transmission fit.
Welcome to the bronk world and even more - this forum!
tranfer case is the j shifter
If using the standard nomenclature - that is also swapped in. Earlier models had a T shaped handle. '66 did have a shifter that Looked like 72 and above but had a straight Pattern like the 67 - 71.
73 & 74 had the 200 rather than the 170, V8 available all yrs. (nothing else available 75,6,7).
You may not have a '66 either, I'd look on the frame for one ID and on the kick plate or glove box door for 'nother to see if there's some info there.
Motor can be IDed externally if needed.
289, 302 & 5.0 had their purpose but so do the 144/170/200/250/300. Some put the 4bT in, I wouldn't...
That transmission is rated upto 500 HP (seen em on some cars on the track in NH & CT), & "fit" in the automotive world, I'm learning, seems to B a judgement not a fact. "size" might mean 'bolt pattern" but then again there are adapters to make em fit any "size" or bell housing bolt pattern.
