Sad Day- My Powerstroke riding the back of a tilt bed tow...
Hey Guys!
It's been ages since I've posted here. For the first time since I bought my 97 powerstroke in 2001 (now 145k miles) it failed me.....at least it was in my driveway. Checked all the usual suspects and decided to haul it down to my buddies shop with bettter diagnostic tools. I ran diagnostics and checked wire bundles and have confirmed that the PCM has died. Here's the kicker...THE PCM MODULES HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED BY FORD! NAPA doesn't have 'em either. A company in Illinois says I can send mine back and if they can repair it they'll return it in 5 weeks! Salmon season is heating up here and the boat is missing it's tow machine! Anyone have a source for PCM's??
Also looking for help in reading my VIN code as I beleive this truck was originally sold in California.

Here are a couple of links that might help:
another VIN decoder Free VIN Decoder - Vehicle Identification Number Report
Shop Manual that has the break down for the VIN and other codes. Sorry this one is for a 1996 but, it might be close enough to get you some of the info you are looking for. 1996 Bronco/F-Series Workshop Manual
Go to the NAPA web site and enter your vehicle info. Then do a search for ECM. They have them.
Here are a couple of other ECM/ECU/PCM web sites:
ECM TECH INFO - FAQ - HOW TO KNOW YOU NEED AN ECM
Auto Computer Exchange | Remanufactured OEM Auto Computers
I haven't done any business with these web sites and don't really know anything about them. Just listed them here as they might have some info you can use.
