Leaf Spring Part Numbers--Decode??

Leaf Spring Part Numbers--Decode??

Hey everybody hoping someone here can help me out. I would like to be able to decipher some info about the front leaf springs that I have in a '90 F350 from the PART NUMBER, not the code on the door jamb. I have searched this site and Google to no avail. The reason I want this info is that I have a 90 F350 that I bought just for the D60 to swap into my 88 F250 (the F350 is pretty rough, going to part out what's left. Good running 460 and ZF5 tranny and rear end--anyone in Utah need anything?). I am trying to decide which way to go for some lift while I'm at it. The F350 is pretty big, 5-6 inches of lift. I was checking it out (just got it) and the front springs are Ford springs, with quite the positive arch. Either the guy a few guys before me had them arched--WAY arched, or he swapped in some springs from some other Ford. I would like to know before I decide what to do. It actually looks pretty good and rides pretty good too. It looks like it's been this way for a while so if they were arched they are holding up pretty well. That's just a lot of positive arch for what used to be a negative arch spring!! Here is the part number from the spring itself: F1TA AMA EW 154 94. My stock 88's are E3TA ABA EW 48 88. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I suppose I could call the dealer as well. I can usually find some good sources to decode these kinds of things, but not this time...

I know a guy that may be able to do something with a Ford number. I will call him Monday and see what he says. He works at a spring shop where I get my parts for road tractors and dump trucks. One thing though. Only the first 4 digits look like a Ford Part number. Not usually arranged like that.

Thanks Catfish. This must be a tough question as no one has had much to offer (understandably). I did call the dealer today and the guy told me that all he could tell me from the number was what it would fit. But yeah, the part number is only F1TA AMA, but he said that for a front leaf spring there should also be the number 5310 between the two A's. Anyway he said that there was a whole list of trucks they would fit. F250, 350 even the 80s-90s Super Dutys F450 and such. I told him that they had a pretty big positive arch to them and he said that they came in both positive and negative arch. I think I will use them in my F250, at least to start and see if I like them enough to run that set up.

So you must either be a heavy truck mechanic or an owner/operator? I own/operate a dump truck here in Utah. Have a backhoe too. Just a little outfit but I sure enjoy my work--I get paid to shift through 15 gears, play in the dirt and listen to my built Cummins 400 BC spool up all day... Are you kidding, I get paid for this? I love it! Either way it's good to have another trucking brother on here to whether you fix them or drive them or both... I am sure there are probably more out there too!

If you are around Salt Lake, Triple A spring might be able to help. They are just off 9th west and 2900 south.

The trouble with a spring stack like you have is you have no idea what the guy before did to get it that way. Might be only the main and second spring are factory and the others off some other stack.

I cut down a main leaf off an 87 F250 diesel, put under the springs on my 86. Brought it up almost level and still rides good. 6" lift is too much for me to still be able to hook up 5th wheels and goose necks besides not being able to get in LOL!

Mechanic...Been doing it for 25 years.
