Thanks numberdummy, I only say the gauge because I was told that I couldn't buy the gas guage by it self. I know its not the sending unit I just replaced that and when I grounded the wire the gauge didn't move.
All the gauges were sold by themselves, were not sold with the cluster. The cluster was not sold as an assembly either, all individual parts: Lens, cluster bezel, cluster back, gauges and etc etc etc!
Of the 37 NOS available fuel gauges (C7TZ-9280-D ~ 1967/70 ONLY), GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 29 = 800-543-4959.
But...what year is it? You haven't mentioned this important fact. I looked at your profile, it sez 1969 F100. If a 1971/72, this fuel gauge is in-correct.
Inside the speedo cables housing is a woven steel core. It is supposed to be lubed every so often, but most peeps are unaware.
Out of curiosity, how does one lube one of these cables? I've no idea how to get something as thick as lithium grease into something like a spedo cable.
Put a glob in the palm of your hand and drag the cable through it while squeezing it lightly. Kinda like packing a bearing. You need to force it into the cable.
BTW, white lithium is a very light grease, not like wheel grease.
Yup. Nothing holds it in place. When sliding it back in(likely from the top if you pull the gauge cluster, then you'll notice the ends are "squared". When you slip it back in, you'll have to turn it slightly to engage it back into the gear down at the tranny end. No biggie.
Just note how far the end sticks out when you unscrew it from gauge cluster. It's only like 1/4-1/2". Just make sure it's the same when you put it back in so you don't hurt it when you screw it back together.
