I have run mine 75 miles with the light on, that's when I ran out of nerve & stopped & put fuel in. That was before I did the in-tank mods.

Like was said before they are all different.

A friend of mine has a 99.5 350, cc,lb, 38 gal. tank, and he has driven at least 100 miles with the low fuel light on, while I certainly don't recommend it, it can be done, and it ran fine since, he's got 200k with zero mods of any type

I use a combination of the fuel gauge and trip odometer. I have had my truck for over 300K miles and have gotten consistently around 17+MPG summer, 15+MPG winter(hand calculated) so i know with my 38 gallon tank I can make 646 miles summer and 570 miles in the winter....when my gauge hits E I am usually around 500 miles and the tank usually takes 30 gallons so I have 8 gallons or 136 miles in reserve(summer numbers).
