I have an 01 crew as well. I had to use the rear seat belt to hold my daughters car seat in. I don't believe there's any anchor points for the quick latch straps.
No LATCH system, need to use seatbelts. Remember rear center is the safest place in the vehicle and if you aren't sure if its installed correctly many police depts have officers trained to check and will do so as a free service.
I remember the first time I put Christians seat in.. You couldnt move that thing.. I went to one of those free Car seat inspection deals at the Baby's R us.. THe cop was having a hard time pulling it free. He just laughed.. I learned then that there is suposed to be some play in the child's seat who knew..
My wife jumps in and tells the cop. " God I am glad you showed him, he was going to use ratchet straps.."

Not so in Michigan anymore (my department) about asking the police. Since everyone is on the CYA (cover your A@*) thing the police are no longer able to secure a child safety seat in the vehicle due to liability issues. example: fatal accident involving the child. Hope it never happens though.
I just wrapped the anchor strap over the back and hooked it under the seat for added support. I also had to use the seatbelt. I have to and both are in the third row. Safest place with the rear axle.
Plus its nice in the third row, I dont get the kicking on the back of my seat, unlike with the wife's edge.

No Kidding, no more Baby R Us things? Wow, thats to bad that an incident can prevent someone from helping many more incidents from happening. Next they will be after you for the free bike helments..
When I worked for Va Beach Fire Dept, all the fire stations did them, but I know that alot of places are getting away from it. I know that there are still safety check points and I dont know if AAA would know about them or not. Here is the website to locate a safety seat location by zip code. Home | SeatCheck.org
Nice brackets Southpaw. I like the idea of the brackets better than the seatbelt.
I dont know if Babys "r us is doing the installs or not anymore. I can only speak for my department. That is that we dont do them. I have been asked numerous times about it and unfortunately I have to say no we can't.
I know that when I went to the car seat installation class (No, it wasnt fun, but it WAS part of the job) the lower anchors are a specific distance apart. I would measure them off a vehicle that has them from the factory.
I too like the LATCH system over the seatbelts, but they are both OK in the eyes of the mfg.
Mighty-Tite - Car Seat Belt Tightener - Sunshine Kids - Babies "R" Us
Get one of these. They really help to get all the slack out of the seat belt.
When I install a child car seat I kneel on it and get as much pressure on it that I can and then tighten up the seat belt. Then take the mighty tite and crank it down. The car seat should not move at all. This is with a shoulder belt. If you put the car seat in the center there is only a lap belt. There should be no problem getting that tight. Just make sure you put all your weight into it. I went to a CHP office and they installed the seat and gave me lessons on how to do it correctly. The CHP officer said if the seat is installed correctly the anchor isn't necessary but still advised as an additional safety feature. It has been a few years since I have needed to install a car seat so I am sure things have changed.
