Hi, I'm replacing the front fuel tank on my 96 F250 PS, is there a quick way to test the fuel sending unit before I put new tank in. I would hate to switch everything over and find out the fuel gauge doesnt work. The front tank has not had fuel in it for I would guess a little less than a year. The guy I bought the truck from said he only put fuel in it in the winter time because of a leak. ( It only leaked in the summer. ) Thanks
^^like Jim said^^ When mine broke off in the rear it would act as if it were running out between the 1/8 and 1/4 tank mark on the guage. My guages are accurate and I couldn't understand. The umbrella had broken off so it was just falling below the level of the fuel line intake. You can take some fuel hose and cut the right length then notch it so it doesn't stick to the bottom and you're good or get one from Ford.
I extended the pickup tube down fairly close to the bottom, and I usually have at least 5 gallons left in that tank when I fill it. Amazing how long it takes to use the 38 gallon one...

Hey Falcon, pull my 5th wheel and see how fast it goes down . I need one of those tanks but I do have an 35 gallon auxillity tank so really I have four stock tanks available.
Thanks to all for your insight. I removed the old tank, tested the sending unit, which worked, switched it over and semi put the new tank in, ( just need to tighten the straps and put the skid plate on, have to work tomorrow ) curse having to work for a living.

No thanks Glenn... I try to make my fuel last, even with my slightly heavy foot.
Got 19.5 mpg driving up to almost Canada in Washington a couple weeks ago to get some parts from Chase. About 1000 miles round-trip and only burned my two tanks worth.
