Rear Seals

I replaced my rear brake shoes because they were oil soaked. I think the seals were done before because the passenger side has no signs of fluid leak but the drivers side has obvious signs of a leak. The vent outlet was plugged, (the hose was not even attached to it) I unplugged it. The question is....should I replace the axle seal or not. I have a seal, I have never changed one on this vehicle before, or can I drive it for a few miles and check for leaks? Any opinions? If a seal leaks is it toast? Considering the plugged vent. On a side note, anyone know of diesel shops in Canada preferably western, where I can buy a DP, Cat Delete and a air filter setup? I am in Manitoba. Truck is a 96 F250 PS.

You could drive it and watch for leaks but then it could trash your new brake shoes too. The plugged vent could theoretically cause pressure to build up and leak lubricant through the weakestpoint, the inner hub seal. I doubt thats very likely though.

The seals aren't too bad. There is an outer that goes on the axle stub where it contacts the hub. Its a giant o ring and couldnt be easier to change. The inner is more expensive and requires the able stub, hub, bearings, etc to be pulled.
