Noisy at start up

07 f150with 5.4. At start up in morning,sounds as if oil starved to top end for few seconds. Only does on initial start up in the mornings. Use the recommended oil and ford oil filter. Had truck for 1.5 years now. Never noticed this until lately. Oil level fine.????? What do you think is going on??

T-bone , my 2005 F150 has the exact same symptoms as yours. I am also waiting for an answer or idea. These lifters in these motors sound as if they are bleeding down over night, only to pump up on initial start up in the morning. The wife also drives an '05 Lincoln Town Car which also has lifter noise in the morning.

I have used the "recommended" motorcraft oil filter with 'anti-leakdown' valve that is supposed to keep your oil in the top of your motor. Didn't make a single difference but make my wallet lighter. I have used 30 wight synthetic with not much resolve.
The only thing I did that made a noticeable difference was use 15-40 rotela t by shell. 5 gallons for 50 bucks. Quiet starts and truck ran great.
I changed my truck back to ford recommend oil last change then my motor blew the piston and rod out the side of my block.

All I have to say is good luck.

I run that Rotella in my diesel tractor..any further input on running it in my 5.4??

am i telling you to use it? No. im just saying i used it and it made it quieter but i dont know what damage if any it did to my engine. My best friend has a 05 with 120K+ miles on his truck and runs rotela for 10k miles between changes. hes a mad man tho.

My 07 does this also. Right after the truck went out of warranty it started doing it.

it appears to be more of an oil filter problem than an oil viscosity issue. Anyone ever use another filter other than the fomoco units with success ??
