Well its been a great summer so far and I've been working the crap outta the truck. My buddy put his boat in the water last weekend and backed in a little too far and cause some damage to the fuel system, so he asked if I could come up and get it..it was an 05 F-150 x-cab 4x4, so I put it on the car trailer and towed it home.
Well the turbo hose popped off again, not fully but it was comming off, I could tell cause the sound from the turbo was different. Anyway I guess its time that I look into the Garrett Power Max or something similar. I have alredy rebuilt it twice, my fault for not driving it enough.
For those of you with this tubo, how do you like it. Matt at Gearhead is already aware of my potential purchase and has a tune for me ready to install so I am seriously looking for one now.
How is the throttle response compared to the OEM turbo, also for those off you who may not drive every day have you heard of any sticking issues or so they do something to help combat that.
Not sure who has the best pricing, got mine from David at Diesel Innovations. Definately like the turbo, just need to update my tunes, and it will lag more with stock files.
Matt at gearhead told me I could bolt it right up and run it but the lag with stock tuning would be noticeable. Im going to nurse the oem one for a bit til I save some money. I had Matt limit my boost to 25 psi so hopefully the boot wont pop off anymore.
I think I may get a hold of RiffRaff and see if there boots are any better.

Thanks Again for the info.

I really couldn't tell much of a difference with stock programming, but I also have 4.30 gears so that helps out some. I have an older PCM that still uses the EBP sensor and with that programming there was really no lag increase since the computer would sense the decreased back pressure and compensate.
Been there done it. The turbo was overboosting. New clamps, and hose...time to upgrade the turbo.
RiffRaff,
Will your hoses work with a Banks I/C and pipes, also thanks for the fast turn around on my AE...hope you guys had a good time at the meet.

Banks I/C fittings and pipes are larger diameter. I ordered a new set of hoses from Banks, it wasn't too bad, similar to the cost of other aftermarket hoses/boots.

Did you go directly to banks or an authorized dealer. I called Banks directly when the dealer did my egr/oil cooler and they broke a stud for the elbow, there customer service was terible and I never did get resolution from them.
If you used another vendor could you pm me and I will order a couple new couplers and clamps. The OEM one works but the bend isnt right.
I called Banks directly and told them which parts from the kit I needed. The do direct sales, so they can deal with you directly. The problem is, I think they work on commission, so nobody wants to help you for a small purchase.
I dont know....I never had the stock one stick or my powermax...run diesel additive, run the dog snot out of it and make sure the turbo cycles the vanes at idle...

I was put on hold and they never picked back up...they suck.
I would like to know about the sticking on the power max as well. But I guess the problem is created by me and my lack of use.
