Custom cab
Was told truck was running but had an electrical issue when parked, Goal is to get it running within the month.
Engine did turn over with socket on the crank, going to drain gas add battery and go from there.
Did it come with generator or alternator?
The Custom Cab had a bright anodized grille, Chrome front windshield moulding, and a few other minor details. Also included custom cab emblems on the doors. The 65-66 models got a sweep needle speedo also instead of the round "clock".
Hey there welcome fellow 4x4 stepchild. You are now the proud owner of the truck that causes more static and misinformation than any other in the 61-66 line. By that I mean 4x4. Well maybe Ranger would be the other. In the small pic in your name post the truck looks pretty solid. Im looking forward to seeing more pics of your truck up close. Got a few real 4x4s of my own that are keeping me pretty busy right now.
Thanks for the info on the generator, should this be changed to an alternator?
It does say custom cab on the driver door, thought it would be some dress up trinkets, missing a few chrome pieces Hood V emblem, Hood F100 emblems and custom cab on passenger side.
I did notice the transmission says T-98, transfer case dana splicer model 22 any idea about axle gear ratios front and rear.
Tires are BFG All Terrains 33-12.50-15
What does the DSO tell about truck?
It will be fun to get this on some Colorado back roads.
Truck needs a little cut and paste hear and there but not to bad. Bed is 8' and needs attention.
Will have to read how to add pictures.
Thanks for the info!
Rear axel code under 12 shows a 3.89. DSO shows it was a special order truck not purchased directly from the lot but ordered in. No FA together in the shop manual. Either a F or A not both together. F shows 4 speed Warner T-98A for A shows 3 speed standard.C in your vin shows motor to be a 292 MD-V8. For 32 Cleveland was the district order point. Im from that area born and raised. It would be interesting to know if it was worked in the steel mills or in the cornfields of that area. If they could only talk. As much dirt that was packed in every where on my 65 and knowing who first bought it. I would bet it worked all its first life on the farm. Good luck putting yours back together.
To post pics you will need to get an online photo editing web such as picasa or photobucket. Just google them and find one. Upload your photos to that site. Then cut and paste using the insert image at the top of the message box. Pretty easy once you get used to it. A pic of the 17.5 wheel with tire that are on my 63 right now.
Four wheel drive custom cab trucks did not receive the sweep speedo. Round was installed. Garbz
Thanks Garbz I missed that one. I think he stated custom cab on the doors. I dont think the early models had that either doors might be off a newer truck.
I guess open mouth insert foot. I had never seen a 61-62 with any kind of custom cab marking. I am not an expert on the subject I know my 63 cc had the door handle scratch pads that are marked cc. I have seen 64-66 with the chrome customcab scribe just below the window. Others are saying that the 64 also had the handle scratch pads. Any way as long as these trucks have been around Im sure stuff has been changed and changed again.
The 1961 Custom Cabs have a chrome steel grille, 1962/66 Custom Cabs have a bright anodized grille.
All 1961/66 Custom Cabs have stainless steel front windshield mouldings, and a few other minor details.
Also included custom cab emblems on the doors. The 65-66 models got a sweep needle speedo also instead of the round "clock".
All 1961/66 Custom Cabs have the Custom Cab nameplates on the doors (C1TZ-8125622-A), except 1963/66's with factory installed optional door handle guards that are marked Custom Cab.
Sweep speedo and plastic chromed instrument cluster bezel only used on 1965/66 F100/250 2WD Custom Cabs.
1965/66 F100/250 4WD Custom Cabs and F350/1100 Custom Cabs have the round speedo with the chrome steel instrument cluster.

Welcome to FTE
There is no DSO code on 1961/62's unless the truck was a special order. 32 does not refer to Cleveland or to any other Ford District Sales Office. 3281 is the 4 digit Domestic Special Order number only.
1963 and later DSO codes are either 2 numbers (not a special order) or 6 numbers if a special order. The first 2 numbers refer to the District Sales Office the vehicle was ordered from.
Hood V(8) emblem only used 1965/66. Gear & Lightning Bolt hood front emblem used on all 1961/64's and 1965/66's with I-6's only.
Thanks for clearing that up Bill good info to know now I wont be guessing about that. Sounds like you were up in our neck of the woods. You came over to the east side of the hills I assume on the North Cascades Hwy. Twisp and Winthroup and the Okanagan area truly is slick country. We are over here to the east of that about 200 klicks. Sounds like you got to see alot of this beautiful PNW.

You came over to the east side of the hills from Friday Harbor via Anacortes, I assume on the North Cascades Hwy.

Got as far east as Grand Coulee Dam. From there went to the Columbia River Gorge via Moses Lake and Pasco.
Two Slicks were heading west on the Cascades Highway as we were heading east, a beat up green 1962 "wrong bed" 4WD Styleside, a nicer 1966 blue 2WD Standard Cab Styleside.
Parked on a lot just south of Twisp were all sorts of old cars/trucks, including a 1958 F600, C Series Tilt Cab, 50's Dodge wrecker. A repair shop in Twisp had a 1956 Ford cabover wrecker parked next to it.
A sign as you enter Twisp from the north has a 1930/31 Ford Model AA 1 ton flatbed mounted atop it. How they got that truck up there 20 feet off the ground must have been a chore.
Flareside 4x4: Cab clearance lights were available factory or dealer installed. There's a chance they also could be aftermarket.
