Trying to decode vin... Some help?
F10DR624395
129 M F100 E81 B 08
DSO- 741872
F100 2wd, V8 352, San Jose, Build 12/64
LWB, Wimbledon White exterior, Interior color? Custom Cab, Warner T85 3 speed, 3:50 rear ratio
I've gathered this from my chiltons, this website, and links off of this site. The calculator on the site threw me off... With a build date of 1964 it said the 'D' engine code meant a 292. With the model year being 1965 that little 'D' means 352, yes? Well thats whats in it anyhow... My chiltons didnt give '08' as a rear axle option until 1969. And I cant seem to find interior codes anywhere.
So, with your help, I can confirm what I have and figure out interior color, along with any other info I may have missed. Is there anyway to figure out the DSO?
Thanks!
F10= 2wd 1965 F100
D= 352 2v motor 208hp @ 4400rpm
R= San Jose Assembly plant
624395 Built date of DEC 64
129= Wheel Base SWB
M= Exterior Color Cornithian White
E81= (Not sure on the "E"; I assume a interior color or style; the 81 = another question; because 81A = Standard cab & 81B = Customcab. Need other's help on this code.
B= Trans 3spd w/ Overdrvie
08= Axle code of 3:50
Hope this helps and Welcome aboard...
Mitch
Havent posted thus far, as any q's Ive had, I found answers for in other threads, and Im not that well versed to be answering q's from others.
But reading through the site, I see its helpful, informative, and friendly around here, def more so than other car forums Ive been around.
edit: since ive posted, i went ahead and put some pics in my gallery. check em out.
E= Interior trim color...Red Crush Vinyl & Red ladder pattern woven plastic
81= conventional cab, 2WD, gas powered, single axle
B= Custom Cab, A would be a standard cab..round speedo etc.
Custom Cab is a sweep speedo with the plastic bezel and the fuel and temp gauges within the round circles to the edges of the speedo.
Theres alot more to the CC package but thats generally a dead givaway along with the out side nampeplates saying so also.
Im in Wa and if you ever wanna talk truck, do give a holler :-)

I also noticed on your pics which I looked at after posting you have the base version cluster...and seeing that your DSO had 4 numbers after it which as I recall is a special order number would most likely explain that IMO
If you know more about the story of your truck, let me know as mine was sold originally in Or. and also has the Seattle DSO.
Let me know when you can and thanks in advance and welcome to FTE

I guess I missed my shot as it looks you already picked that one up. I will just have to keep my eye open and look for another one.
I live in Hillsboro and I am always looking for old pickups to get parts.

Even with the rust, its a strong truck. Might not be good for restoring, but shes a hard worker.
As for the actual topic, I would think its a custom cab since the nameplate on the door says as much, but i don't really know the actual features of a custom cab. I had a feeling that the interior would be red, what with the red interior and all...
Oh yeah, no idea about its history (looks like it hauled salt at one point).
When a letter is the first digit of the Body Code (1961/66), it denotes a Custom Cab.
E81: E = Red Crush Vinyl & Red Ladder Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81B Custom Cab.
New vehicles were usually introduced in September of the previous year (just like today), so a build date of 12/64 (or 8/64; 9/64; 10/64; 11/64) will be a 1965 model.
btw: B = Borg Warner T-85N 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission
M = Wimbledon White (Corinthian White is 1963 and earlier and is a brighter shade of white). Wimbledon White is an off white.
DSO 74: Seattle is the Ford District Sales Zone Office for the PNW.
Every new vehicle in the PNW, car & truck, was (is) ordered by the selling dealer thru the Seattle Office. There is no Ford District Sales Zone Office in Portland, OR.
Gallery photos: The engine is painted the wrong color. 1965/66 Ford trucks had black block and heads, the 352 valve covers were painted gold. The air cleaner is not original, it would have had an oil bath air cleaner originally.
Chrome oil caps were part of the cars engine "Dress Up" kit that included either a Mustang style all chrome air cleaner, or Galaxie style chrome air cleaner (only the top of the air cleaner was chromed on the Galaxie type), chrome valve covers, chrome oil dipstick handle. A customer could request a dealer to add the "Dress Up" kit, but most trucks don't have it.
Ford also offered thru their Racing Division, several types of polished aluminum valve covers. The covers said either SHELBY or COBRA LE MANS on them, the ovate air cleaner was similar to the dual quad air cleaners used on 1962/67 406/427 Galaxies. Either a single "pot" or dual "pot" aircleaners was available.
The Dress Up kit has been reproduced (dearbornclassics.com-they are located in Bend, OR), as well as the Cobra Le Mans engine accessories.
The floor shift isn't original, the only floor shifts were used with 4 speed transmissions.
The instrument cluster is correct for your 1965 F100 Custom Cab, and appears to have the optional oil and amp guages.

I have the plastic dash in my pickup, not original but I purchased it form a salvage years many 6 years ago. What did it take to get that dash from Ford back then if this was not equipped with the Custom Cab?

C5TZ-10838-A .. Dash Cluster / Plastic / 1965/66 Rangers & Custom Cabs
C1TZ-10876-A > > replaced by > > C9TZ-10876-F .. Dash Bezel / Chrome Plated & White / 1961/66 Custom Cabs / 1965/66 Rangers (with 4WD only)
Which is which?
AFAIK, 1965 Custom Cabs came both ways, 1966's have the plastic 2WD Ranger type.
Yea, the air cleaner on it is pretty much a joke, its on my list of things to replace. It does have the oil and amp gauges. I do have four on the floor, with remenants of the 3 on the tree around.
Thanks for the info!
