Hi I have a stock 97 7.3 psd. Its automatic 4wd standard cab. A friend of mine has a 89 6.9 and the truck is the same setup as mine but it has a stack and maybe intake. He's been talking alot of trash about pulling my truck but I've just been telling him he's crazy. I just wanted to know if he's right or not cause I'm fairly new to the diesel game . Any input would be awesome
The pulling game is all about who losses traction first. I you hook will him a mash it and start spinning then he could drag you across the parking lot buy if you learn yor go pedal and can keep your truck from spinning then he doesn't stand a chance
So basically just act as if you were stuck in mud and go kinda easy so as to not lose traction and dig yourself in?. As far as power goes doesn't the 7.3 psd have more power?
DON'T pull like that unless you really want to break something. It WILL happen sooner or later. Find an untraveled road somewhere, someone watching for cars, and just drag race him. Better yet, do it at the race track. Don't be stupid..
yeah, its a good way to break stuff, handfull of my buddys have.
Once a ram gasser wanted to hook up, so we did, he thought he would out smart me by holdin his breaks till i spun and lost traction. i just dragged his truck with all 4 tires locked lol. it was only a 1500 though, nothing to brag about, but funny
Lol thats funny. Yeah I would only pull just to shut him up but I'm not gonna race the truck tilli get some mods like the 6637 and an exhaust. Maybe a chip too
Oh, dear God. I can't believe that anyone seriously talks about axle pulls. Me and my buddies always joke about it, while using over the top redneck accents.
In all seriousness, it's a great way to break parts.
Edit: I raced my buddy, who was driving his grandpa's 6.9L, and I destroyed him. My only mod at the time was that I hacked off the exhaust past the stock downpipe. He said that his grandpa's 6.9 was bored thirty over. I don't know so much about that, but that's what he said.
Last time I checked a 6.9 with a turned up fuel pump and hypermax turbo was only putting out about 200hp at the wheels, so MAYBE same power as a stock 'stroke
I can tell you that a stock PSD will roast the tires big time once the turbo boosts. Right before I replaced my rear tires I did a few burnouts and drifts... well cause I could.
I could run them right up to the rev limiter in first gear sitting still no problem. Not bad for a truck with 3,350 lbs on the rear axle when empty.
I also burned out a rear tire climbing a steep hill with over a ton in the bed while pulling my equipment trailer. I had to unload the tractor and then drive it up the hill because my truck couldn't pull it even though I had a disc and a blade in the bed.
