IT NEVER ENDS

Replaced the trans pan gasket since the original one decided to fail in every place imaginable and after THAT ordeal, it still leaks from the rear driver's-side corner! I'm literally at my wit's end here, I can't even think straight. I'm so sick of working on this truck.

Brand-new rubber gasket, bolts torqued to spec, why on earth is it still leaking? Somebody solve the problem for me, I don't have the energy to do it myself...

I wonder if the pan bolts have been over tightened in the past and the pan is in need of a little straightening...

So if I go lightly tap that corner with a hammer for a while you think it'll fix it up? 'Cause I do NOT want to pull that pan again!

X2 on the pan being bent. My Dad used to have the trans fluid changed every year on his 83 F150 with the AOD after hauling his TT from Maine to Florida. When I got the truck it had a small leak from the same corner as yours. I pulled the pan and found that the bolt holes on the front of the pan had at some point been over tightened pulling the metal out of shape. I repaired it with a small hammer and a block of wood. When the pan was reinstalled I used some washers to spread the load. It worked but I ended up buying an after market pan that was slightly deeper and had a drain plug. Made that job much easier.
BTW Old Red and its AOD lasted to 218k.
YMMV

Alright... I'll give the hammer a shot. Unfortunately I don't expect that tranny to last long... It's throwing code 628 whenever it gets up to highway speed.

do you see any gasket sticking out , or does it look like it could have been sucked into the pan ?

I know the feeling about pulling the pan again, I'd rather be castrated with a dull knife than pull a transmission pan, but, I doubt you will ever do any good until you pull the pan. You need to put the block of wood under the lip of the pan then take a ball peen hammer and strike the bolt hole from the top surface until it's perfectly flat.. Don't beat the crap out of it just tap lightly and check often for a flat surface on the pan.

Crap crap crap. If the designers at Ford hadn't been such morons and put a dang drain plug in then it wouldn't be half as bad but nooooo......

I'm an arrogant Toyota driver... Can't you tell?

I sincerely hope I can get away with just a little hammer work with the pan still on.
