Transmission pan leaking

Any ideas....transmission pan is leaking at the plug on a "00 with 87K. Tried pulling plug and putting copper gasket on. Still leaks. Plug was stripped from the factory so I drilled it out and replaced it with a 10mm x 1.5" pitch. This seemed to be the correct thread size. Any ideas or am I stuck buying a new pan? Anyone have a take off from when they put a mag hytec on they may want to part with??

I have an aluminum finned pan that holds four extra quarts of fluid from Hughes performance here in Phx. It runs about 220.00 with all the hardware and new filter. Bolts right up and very well worth the money. Here is a picture of mine right before the last bolt went in.

Ps. if you look up Hughes Performance it will come up on the web

Can get a mag-hytec that holds 8 extra quarts for another $70. Total price of $290 on mag hytec. Think it is worth the extra $70?

I agree with Fire Rooster, spend the money for a better pan.

Spending the money for a better pan sounds like a good idea.....just a matter of how much for what pan. $290 for a mag hytec is fine but is there a better value for the dollar out there???

Jerrod,

sounds like a good deal just be careful of how low that pan hangs as it might not have much protection if you go off roading at all. But in my opinion more fluid to circulate and cool off is better.

So you are saying go with the mag hytec?? If I am not mistaken.....it really doesn't hang much lower overall...they just box out the parts that are up sloped in the factory pan. The mag hytec is 8 additional quarts vs 3-4 quarts on most the other pans out there. I don't do a whole lot of off roading but still enjoy a nice clearance. What you think??

How about towing? Heavy tows? More is better. Mag-hytech is a reputable name, I don't think you could go wrong.

Don't do much towing....and very occasional heavy towing.......have rear diff cover by mag hytec.....is it worth the cash for a tranny cover or go with a smaller cheaper one? Will it eliminate the need for addtional tranny cooler or do i still need to buy one of those? How well does it actually disapate heat?

Aluminum and the fins (surface area) dissipates the heat. Plus the differential and tranny pans hold more fluid.
The PML tranny cover I purchased dropped my tranny temp about 15 degrees.
The PML differential cover can be purchased with a temp. probe tap as well.

I have the temp probe for my tranny gauge in the test port now....can't I just leave it tehre if I replace the pan?? Is a 4+ quart pan sufficient or should I just spend the extra $100 or so for the mag-hytec?? Think I can skip the tranny cooler with a upgraded pan??
