After flushing my auto tranny with Amsoil Torque-Drive, replacing the pan filter, and installing an external filter... I started noticing a whine around 20-35mph that you can only hear in the cab. It sounds like a wheel bearing going, but when the truck is on jacks, you can not hear the noise outside, and when the motor is turned off, the noise goes away. I have a 4WD truck, and ended up with a FT-113 filter... is this the wrong filter? Could using the 2WD filter cause a whining noise to come from the transmission? Could the external filter be causing the noise?
Don't know if there is a difference from 2 to 4wd butt I do know when I bought mine there is a filter for a deep or shallow pan. Mine was the deep. The filters have a long and short pickup sticking out. If u compared them when u replaced them and they looked the same I would assume u r ok. Did u get the old o ring out and put the new one in on top of the filter? Mabe someone else here will know more? Good luck!
E4OD had a shallow and deep pan. The 4R100 only uses the deep. Seems like all the catalogs/data used by the parts houses lump the two together and end up giving you the wrong one when asking for the 2wd 4R100 filter. Since yours is 4x4, they SHOULD have gotten it right.
If you go here, you can enter your vin and it will check the part to see if it fits your application. If I remember correctly, the 4R100 only uses the deep filter.
So I confirmed that I did install the wrong transmission filter (FT-113).
Does anyone know if this could cause damage to the transmission if I drive it until the new filter comes in and I swap it out? I assume that if my fluid level is topped off, there shouldn't be an issue... but wanted to make sure.
