Pleasent Suprise

I recently tried a product on the recommendation of a friend. The product is Lucas Fuel Treatment. I really didn't expect much out of it. My injectors were in need of a good cleaning and I just assumed that I was going to have to take them out and overhaul them. I poured the proper amount of the diesel treatment into a full tank. Within about 75 miles, the truck starts better, runs smoother and quieter and seems to have a better, smoother pick up. I am waiting to fill up again to see if the mileage has improved, but I am thinking it has. I know most additives are just snake oil that really don't do much for your truck, but I am very impressed with Luca's line of products. Seems that every product I have tried does exactly what it is advertised to do. Why can't the rest of the manufacturers take a lesson and try to emulate these guys. Think of it, products that don't waste your money.

What made you think your injectors needed cleaning?

What part of your injectors were cleaned by the fuel treatment?

We've had lots of threads on this and most say they can't tell a difference using Lucas, Diesel Kleen or any other.

If it works for you, thats a good thing.

I was having issues with cold starts that had been gradually coming on. It had gotten to the point that even in the summer, (of course here in the Pacific Northwest we are still getting mornings in the low 50's) it acted as if there were a couple of injectors not firing until it warmed up. Now it starts normally. Also, I could hear at least one of the injectors intermittenly ticking when the engine warmed up. That is now gone.

I am thinking the lower part of the injectors, the nozzles and poppets were cleaned. Mainly for the reasons stated above, plus the fact that the engine sounds quieter at idle, smoother accleration and seemingly a little better fuel economy. It just doesn't seem as if it is working as hard on acceleration and at cruise.

Lucas also claims better lubrication with their product. That may be making a difference as well.

Is this Lucas fuel treatment Diesel specific?? I've seen the small bottles at the parts stores and always thought they were for gas engines......

Are you talking about your 1994 F-150 in your profile? What truck are you talking about?

I guess I need to update my profile. I traded the 94 for a '01 F250 SD with a 7.3 PS.

These products do nothing to "clean" our injectors... What they do is add some lube into the fuel and boost the Celaine rating of the fuel.

It starts easier because you have in effect made it super unleaded compared to regular.

There is nothing to "clean" in our injectors.

If your having hard starts in the 50's I would first check your glow plug relay, then check your high pressure oil readings.
