Here is another picture of them. Mine are on the left side of the truck and are strapped to the frame. I have a F350. I also have a short bed built in December.

As far as I can see no, they look to be the termination point.

Here is a previous thread and a pic(although the truck is not as clean as Maruader) that discusses the plug location and possible job desription.

I just went through all of this headache too. Finally found the oem part from ford, ordered it and took it home, just to find out that I don't have the plugs under my truck. (f350 king ranch dually job 2). The parts guy thought we might need to change out another part of the harness on the frame, but I was tired of messing with it and didn't want to take another chance on it not fitting and wasting more time and fuel getting it so I returned the oem harness and picked up the aftermarket harness that ties in between the bumper plug. It was made by Curt and had 90 degree plugs on it so it cleared the bed and the bracket on the bumper hitch. I installed mine on the pillar at back corner of the bed facing forward. What I learned from all of this is to never assume your wiring harness is like someone elses.

Man, this whole thing really sucks!

I have an F250 with the heavy towing package (2.5" receiver), but no 5th wheel set-up. After reading all this about the 5th wheel harness being plug & play, I bought one from Ed.

Great price as usual, and fast shipping too. However, I assumed (I KNOW!) that all the trucks had the plug ends to add an OEM 5th wheel harness especially the heavier towing packages, so I never looked until I went ahead to install it today. Can't find anything along the frame rail that looks like anything this 2 ended harness will plug into.

I'm not sure if you all have purchased the OEM part recently, but the 7 way plug itself on the part I received is mounted to a kind of tower like thing that clearly is designed to be surface mounted somewhere. Also, the wiring is quite long and includes prepositioned mounting snap like things that are designed to be routed to a designated place.

My question is to anyone who has the factory 5th wheel plug that was included with the truck at delivery..... Where is the 7 way plug mounted by the factory? Is it surface mounted?

I like the idea of using the left pillar or the tailgate for the plug, but that is obviously not where this harness and plug is designed to go. If it goes somewhere special elsewhere in the bed, maybe I'll find the plug ends in a different location.

At any rate, Ed may not want me harness back as it's an "electrical part", so I may need to improvise an install myself using the wiring to the bumper plug if I can't get to the plugs along the bottom.

Thanks for any information you may be able to share!
Have a great weekend.

Tom

I did the same thing as you. My solution was the use the OEM plug and bracket and buy one of these for my wiring harness.

Pollak 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Trailer Connector Wiring Harness w/ T-Connector Pollak Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring PK11932

The reason for the bracket is because the depth of the plug would hit the outside of the bed. Not enough room for the plug. I mounted it in the drivers corner at the rear, just in that flat spot. I did this today, and it worked great! The T-harness from Pollak will plug right in your plug you have now. Good luck

I was watching one of the ford videos and I think I saw the factory plug mounted on the wall between the rear pillar the wheel well about half way up on the wall. As far as returning the oem plug, I was lucky. He gave me the full amount back. It just depends on the parts guy. I did notice that the aftermarket harnesses had heavier gauge wire than the oem harness.

Mine is a late May 2011 build 450 KR, the plugs are not there. I bought the Ford 5th wheel harness before the truck arrived so I would have it ready, surprise surprise I can only guess if you don't order Ford's prep package they have fixed it so we can't just just quickly install our own.

Anyone have a schematic for these plugs? Looking to use them to power additional backup lights, brake light in shell and interior lights in shell.

Did anyone come up with a conclusion on what these 2 connectors are actually used for? Also what each wire does? Would like to use it for accessory's if possible. I just went though all wiring diagrams but cant seem to find anytime on those. Also what is the blue/ white blunt wire used for that is taped to those harnesses? Thanks in advance.

I have a new Motorcraft harness sitting on the bench waiting to go in, I will try and work backwards to help you guys out in a few days when I’m off.

Obligatory statement - As with any electrical work, verify with a multimeter.

I will play with a multimeter when I do my install on the harness/puck kit this winter to verify wire colours on both the harness and truck side if someone doesn’t by then. Working backwards from the legend on the 7-pin plug, I have labelled the pins *potentially* (from the view looking face on against the harness side of the plug - the truck will be opposite!!!!)

1. LH
2. Negative
3. Electric Brakes
4. RH
5. Positive
6. Running lights
7. Reverse
