2013 Trailer Plug

I bent the bumper in on my f250and it crushed the trailer plug. Not a big deal to get a new plug but the problem is that it also crushed the plug from the wiring harness that goes into the trailer plug. I can’t find a parts picture to show how long the harness is to the next plug. I’d rather replace the harness if it’s not to long, rather than have slice a new plug on to it. If I have to start splicing, I’ll just put a aftermarket plug on it. Any ideas on how long the harness is to the next connector. Thanks!

I have a 2013, but I'm not sure what harnesses you are talking about for sure. There should be no reason to splice wires as there should be plenty of aftermarket harnesses on the market. I used one of the aftermarket harness to tap into the factory connector and run the plug in to the bed of my truck for the 5th wheel.

If you have any doubts, call Etrailer.com and they will fix you right up.

Good Luck,

Good Luck,
the harness that I am talking about would be the one that plugs into the back of the trailer plug that goes up under the pan. From the factory there is a round plug there that connects to the trailer plug. Mine is crushed so I need to purchase a new piece of wire harness. I’m just not sure how long it is up under the truck box before the next connection.

I have a '15 LB 6.2, so it may be a bit off-but may give you an idea.
Just was under there...had the same issue as you plus a few of the wires were shredded. Got the replacement plug from Ford, and ordered a new plug kit from etrailer.com
The harness itself, from the plug, runs to the driver's side rail for about 5 feet (accounting for turns and loop arounds) then disappears into a loom just aft of the gas tank.
The harness itself can be gotten from Ford-but it is the whole shmear from cab to rear-you can't just get the section for the trailer connections-and it is pricey, real pricey.
I just spliced in new wires-twist/solder/wrap/loom- I'm a retired aviation electrician, so I am pretty confident in my splicing and isolating abilities.
Hope this helps...

Use the other connector

on my 2013 there is a second connector in the harness that allows for a second trailer harness to be attached. I used it to run a ford stock cable to the fon of my truc bed for my slide in truck camper. Look for the connector at the back driver side between the shock and the bumper.

I also got the connector from etrailer.com. I believe it’s the exact one fthst ford sells, but much cheaper. Ford couldn’t help me out with a plug that I could splice in ( I’m a retired navy electrician myself) but they did have a harness there that the guy at the parts counter said would work for $125. I, myself don’t think it will work because it’s nowhere that I can see to plug it in. There are plugs available on eBay. I will have to order one from there. Thanks fir the input.

13A576 was the part number for the plug that connects to the trailer connection plug. $28.76 is what I paid.

That looks like the harness that he showed me. Different part number and price. 125 is what I was quoted. So you had to cut off the rectangle plug and wire in the other plug to the harness? Thanks fir the help.

Yup, just cut off a good section of the harness and spliced/soldered/wrapped/loomed. Just didn't feel (lazy) like tracing all the way back to the connector, cutting the loom and all that jazz. Figured it would have taken me longer to do that and re-looming than splicing the new plug in...besides, the color codes were correct so it was easy peasy.

Ok thanks. I might just go to a junk yard and cut one out. I’m in Canada so I don’t know if I can order the plug that you used. I will try. Thanks again. That was exactly what I needed.
