Has anyone seen the Youtube vid on digital odmeters ? It says if you hold in your trip reset button befor inserting your key and turning it to start you can pull up all kinds of info. A tach reading and digital speed are avaliable along with a lot of other codes. You scroll through the tests using the reset button. It returns to normal after you shut it off and restart.
It works on the new ones too. There is all kinds of information in there. It will do a gauge sweep (move all pointers full range of motion), bulb prove out (illuminate all the bulbs so you can see if there's a burnt out bulb), and then you get into a bunch of numbers. You can get raw data for the signals that are driving your fuel gauge, speedometer, tachometer, etc. It has the software and hardware part numbers and I think cluster build dates. It also list out any DTC's if there are any.
I went through that too. I didnt understand 90% of the numbers and letters given... I understand oil temp, volts, colant temp. But most were weird numbers and letters. Where can i find a break down or a list of what does code mean???
1. To enter the instrument cluster self diagnostic mode with the engine off, depress and hold the trip/odometer reset button.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position and hold until test appears in the display area (within five to eight seconds).
3. Once the test appears release the trip/odometer reset button within three seconds.
4. Depress the trip/odometer reset button once to advance to each stage of the self-test.
5. Turn the ignition to the OFF position to exit the instrument cluster Self-Diagnostic Mode. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.

While we are on the subject you can also run a self test on the stock head unit by holding down the 2 and 6 button and using the 2 button to scan through the dtc folders and get all the info. The digital climate control also has a self test feature.
