My vote goes for XLT. The flow-thru console with floor shift is a deal breaker for me. I much prefer the captain chair option of the XLT. I also don't like paying for a lot of options that I don't want because it comes standard. Now if Ford would just offer more colors for interiors I would be happier.
My favorite is the XLT. Most of the bling on the Lariat makes it look cheap in my eye. You could have a 4X4 XLT for the price of a 2WD Lariat. Save that Lariat Bling money for 4X4, or maybe a 6.5' Screw.
I reading an article / interview a couple of weeks ago in a business paper that one of my customers showed me. They were interviewing Alan Mullaly. The gist of the article focused on the low J.D. Powers score that Ford recently got for quality. The quality issues were focused around the SYNC / NAV units and the transmission shifting.
He says that 2012 promises to be a better year and improvements will be made in these areas.
So, if anyone is holding out for a 2012 model, you may see even more refinements and improvements to an already great truck. XLT or Lariat, you can't go wrong.
Do you happen to know what paper that was in or have a link to the article?

Thats very true... and I think in the long-term, the XLT 4wd will have a higher resell than the Lariat 2wd.
I may wait for the '12 model if its supposed to host all of those improvements.

The Lariat was never in my price range, so I never considered it from the get-go (the XLT has always sufficed for my needs), but I love the grille on my XLT with the chrome package - I saw someone on here call it a "washboard" look but I like it! I'm constantly checking out the XLT's with the chrome package and they look like beasts coming down they road. The look of the grille gives it an appearance that it sits up higher, too. Almost looks like the HD's of yesteryear (the way they sit up, nice and tall). I'm hopelessly in love my truck, though. It is a sexy beast. lol. I still pull it out of the garage just to sit out front and stare at it - ahhhh, sweet perfection.
Its good to see someone that loves their vehicle - so many people these days just gas-n-go, never appreciate them and run them into the ground.
At first I liked the standard XLT grille, but the more I started seeing the "chrome package" grille, it has really grown on me and if I go that route, I will likely get the chrome package. Strange though I have never seen a supercab with the chrome package, only the crewcabs, but according to the Ford "build your own", it can be ordered with it (supercab with chrome package), but I wonder?
I actually just got home and had stopped by our closest Ford dealer about an hour ago and browsed the 60 F150s they have... most are crewcabs, I think they have two supercabs, one is an XLT (non-convenience package model) 5.0L, 4wd, gold, for $26K, but it has hail damage. The other supercab they have is an red XL 4wd 5.0L. They have about 4 XL regular cab 2wd, but I am not at all interested in an XL, especially a regular cab short bed. They did have XLT supercab 2wd, but it had been ordered for a local "Trane" A/C company, as it already had the graphics painted/stickered on it. They had four Lariats, three were hail damaged priced at $34K and $32K and $36K. The $36K had the eco 3.5L and the chrome package. Had one non-hail damaged Lariat with eco.
You can tell I scout them out. LOL

I'm sorry sir, I don't. My customer knows I'm a Ford guy and she handed me the page and I scanned over it real quick.
That's ok. Thanks for sharing the information. We'll probably know a lot more in a month or two when the 2012s are revealed.
The 2012 model is probably the model I'd get anyway. I'm just busy deciding what exactly I want, including Lariat or XLT, 5.5' or 6.5' bed, EB or 5.0L, 3.55 or 3.73 gears, LS or ELD, 2WD or 4x4. I've almost got it figured out, right? At least I know it will be an F150.

Really the only thing about the Lariat I like over the XLT is the grille, and the fact you can get leather. I'd be fine getting the XLT, saving money, and then getting aftermarket leather (probably better quality for a better price), and swapping out a Lariat grille. The rest of the options I mentioned are available with either package as far as I know.
I wish they would bring the Leather option back to the XLT trim. Im not a fan of the new light colored wood dash and the grille on the Lariat dosent look as good as the XLT IMO.
It's interesting to note that everyone who sits in my new 2011 silver 6.2L Lariat always makes a comment on how nice the interior blonde wood trim looks.
It always happens. It is the single most comment I get. I personally have always liked it. It's unique especially next to the other silver trim panels. Then, tie all that in with the silver exterior and it is awesome, in my opinion...
Well I know that the supercab with the chrome package exists now anyway. I had never seen one before until today when I went by one of our local Ford dealers today (one that I had not been too that is about 20 miles west of here) and they had TONS of new F150s on the lot and it was there I seen several supercabs with the chrome package option, most were the blue flame color with 4wd, which is what I want. At the other three local Ford dealers, the only ones they had with the chrome package were 4wd crewcabs.
I had been wanting to go by there, but we had a death in the family (one of my Papaws passed away Tuesday night) and its been kinda hectic around here and somber and really havent been in the truck shopping mood.
