I have a 75 302 marine I belive it is a HO it has the 351 firing order. I am switching it over to put in my 82 F100 short bed so I'm needing help building it. My grandfather said I would need a new distributor, flex plate bolts (because the motor has studs), exhaust bolts( because of long studs), and carburator. I'm thinking about these parts, what is you opinion on these and what else do I need to do to switch it. There is 2 intake manifolds I am looking at one is a stage 2 Summit Racing without a rear water crossover and the other is a stage 3 Summit Racing with a rear water crossover which one do I need? I'm looking a Lunati 280 bare bones 351w cam or can I go bigger with out modding the heads. Some one told me if I went too big I would have to get spacers to rise the heads up or it could cause the valves to hit the pistons. And also I'm looking at a set of aluminum GT40 EFI heads will these work on a 75??? This is just a start on what I'm thinking about but this is my first engine build any help or advise would be awsome.
A marine engine should already have GT40 heads on it, best thing to do is get the casting numbers off them(they're on the head gasket side) and post them up and then we'll see.
What type of use will your truck see with this motor? A 5.0 can produce great HP but it's a little weak at low rpms so it isn't the best platform for a relatively heavy truck without axle gearing and/or a high stall converter.
I would be very leery about using a marine engine in a vehicle. Lots & lots of them have cracked blocks & maybe even a head or something else and will leak coolant when put into a pressurized system. Look it over VERY closely.
