Ok, So I read on several forums that the Ford 300 I6 is the best engine Ford ever made. I am looking at getting an old Ford truck for my kids and I thought it would be a great project if we were to get an engine and rebuild it together. Problem(s) are ... 1) I've never rebuilt an engine. 2) I don't have the engine. 3) I don't have the truck
So the things I am looking for are: Where can I get a reliable 'how to' on engine rebuilding? (For the record, I am not completely mechanically stupid. I was a mechanic on an F-15 for many years, just not cars). Secondly, is it best to go the already rebuilt short block route? Third, How to best go about selecting parts for the rebuild? (Read: So many choices for things like intake manifolds).
I am not looking to break any land speed records. Just looking for a nice, reliable, fun vehicle project to work on with the family.
In this case I would put the cart before the horse. Buy the most rust free truck you can find and see how the engine is to start with. Just browsing the six cylinder forum for awhile will provide most if not all your answers.
