Running too hot

With a lot of help from here I finally took the plunge and upgraded my 97 obs psd cc and took off for the mountains to play. The upgrades are cold air, TS chip, 3" downpipe, Pyro guages, and a missing kitty cat. I had a local dealer buddy help with the Pyro and followed the pics so that it is in the right place on the manifold.

Problem is that when towing my toy hauler which is only 24 ft and not overly heavy 6500lbs in order to keep it at 55-58 mph my pyro is running at 1300 degrees. If I watch it and drop the pyro to 1200 I am down to 48 mph. It runs cooler with the chip off and I had my cooling system redone last month- water pump went out- then rechecked. Brakes are not dragging and I am totally stumped. Has anyone else had this problem and what do I need to look at next.

What transmission? What gear you in at 55-58? Have you checked for any exhaust leaks?

Isnt your EBPV stuck and closed partially?. Maybe you need a reburn of the chip or you need an intercooler.

Trans is the E40 d and it runs that hot in overdrive and third. I had to row it myself in order to keep it cooler. I could not find any exhaust leaks and my local shop said it was sealed.

How would I check my Pyro to know if it is reading correct?

As to the EBPV I don't know what that is but will look it up and take a look at it.

If your using third and its that hot it must be your gauge. Check the wiring on the gauge.

Are you using regular TS tunes or is it custom tunes? The regular TS tunes are known to have high egt's

I was running the stock tunes but put it back to stock configuration because it was cooler that way.

Thanks for the pic, will open up the down pipe on the turbo and check on that tomorrow.

I'm going to guess that you are not pulling very high RPM or boost numbers at 55-58mph. What boost pressure are you seeing? Are you shifting down? In order to maximize power while minimizing EGT, you need more RPM. Higher RPM, like 2500-2800, will generally allow more boost and help manage EGT. EGT is tied to fueling, your radiator is probably fine, your tuning, driving style, and an intercooler would be better places to look to help control EGT.

Agree with Karl... I pull a 34' Toy Hauler and with the 4.10's am running hot in OD flatlanding. If I down shift to 3rd RPMs jump up and EGTs fall down to approx 10 - 1100. Pulling hills is another thing though. Also able to pull on flat ground 65 - 70 with no head wind at approx 1200, boost hangs around 10 - 15 in 3rd and 5 in OD. IC & Water/Meth on its way!!!

Glenn, are you using the injection system strictly for cooling or have you tried witrh the meth mix? How much more performance did you gain vs. temps being higher (or lower, not sure if the metch makes it burn hotter)?

Mike, I use only water, I haven't even tried meth. I bought coolingmist's biggest tank, a seven gallon and if I'm pulliing a lot of hills or fighting a head wind I can go thru it in 300 miles. I have plenty of power, I can't see buying all that meth. Besides, I just got it to keep the EGT's down. My latest run across Iowa east bound on I80, there is a lot or rolling hills. I used to have to kick it out of OD a lot, this time only a few times. I find it remarkable, boost will go to 20+ in OD at 70mph and the EGT's will hang at 1,200. I had my 5er weighted at Elkhard, IN because I got the Mor/Ryde system instaled and I was at 4K a wheel. Water injection is worth the money.
