A Different "Stealership" Tale

Went to start, 1 revolution, quit. Dome light flashing on/off, relays clicking, pwr windows/door locks no work. Measure batt voltage, pass batt has 7.85. Drvr side 12.86. Rats!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Camped at West Lake Park in Davenport IA. No 2nd car, no friends. Call my towing service, hauled to Courtesy Ford (formerly River City Ford). A primarily truck sales/service shop.
<o></o>
Service Writer thinks he can squeeze me in. They rearrange vehicles (3 of them) in order to free up a stall to put me in. Told them I think I just need a battery. (Batt is 16 mos old, Ford Motocraft 850 amp but bought from parts house not Ford). Asked Service Writer if he’ll honor the 3 yr free replacement warranty, he checks with Service Mgr, NO, you did’nt buy it from FoMoCo.
<o></o>
Later, talking with Mech about giving me old battery so I can get a free one for the other side from the parts house, Service Writer comes up while I’m telling Mech I need old one cause this guy here (Service Writer) won’t honor warranty. Service Writer then wanders off
<o></o>
Later, outside BS’ing with salesman, Service Writer comes up, asks to make a copy of my receipt for the battery I had brought with me. Sez he spoke with Gen Mgr and they’ll honor the warranty.
<o></o>
Almost three hours after arriving, Service Writer asks me to sign for the job, I asked whats the charges,
NO CHARGE!! Sez the 3 hrs troubleshooting & battery will all be covered under warranty.
<o></o>
In my 11 yrs on the road, this is the first time that I’ve had a business person go the extra mile and not take the first answer as gospel and keep trying for the Customer. Simply unheard of.
<o></o>
For my money, this Dealership in no “Stealership” and deserves your business if in this area.

My local Ford dealership also went the extra mile for me. I had a 2005 F150 that had bad cats. Parts alone were north of $3000 and misc repairs inside the engine were $1000 plus labor. The misc repairs were due to a cheapo oil filter with no check valve (shoulda sued Jiffy Lube).. Anyway. They said that the cats COULD be bad because of a bad injector. The injectors weren't on recall but the warranty on them was extended to 120,000 miles because they had issues. So my service tech does some finagling, and comes back and says "Good news and bad news. All of the labor and parts costs will be paid for by Ford, under the extend fuel injector warranty." Saved me $4400. "Bad news, the cats are on back order and are produced as needed, so it could be awhile." At the time I didnt know how long "a while" was. But Ford also paid for a rental truck for me the whole time. After almost 3 months I got a call from my service tech. He said the cats he ordered still were waiting to get made, (scare metals were in short supply) but he called every Ford dealer in California and found one that didnt get cataloged into the system sitting on a shelf in Los Angeles, and another up in northern California, and that my truck should be ready in about a week.

Ever since then I have always gone back to that dealer, and that service tech. His name is Peter at Vista Ford of Oxnard. Got 2 new cats and a rebuilt motor for free, paid for by Ford. Not only did Ford built a truck, but they stood behind it! Which is why I still drive Ford today

Courtesy Ford in what city & state? Got their phone number?

I'm always for promoting any business that is willing to take care of customers. A referral goes a long way and might help someone else out searching the forums down the road.

At the parts counter, I always have a good experience from Ford. Besides I get 48% off. WooHoo.

The parts counter ( Mike or Ray) at Kelleher Motors (Ford dealer) in Ellensburg, Washington has always been right with me. If Parts Guy Ed is cheaper they will match his price and I don't have to pay shipping.

Pulller, that is wonderful news to hear. Glad to know that there are good people at the local dealer. I know when my dad's water pump went out when he was up here visiting from california they took care of it quick and bumped a lot of people around to get him out as soon as possible. Looks like I should be heading down there this weekend for a few things I have needed, was going to go through Ed but if they will meet his pricing, then id love to keep my business local, as well as support a dealership that is still doing things right.

Not all dealers are bad - problem is the good ones are far and few between! The 2 closest to me are ok for parts and that's about it - better dealer 45min away but they're service dept is small and always busy (good sign) so I end up doing most of the work
