My 05 started bubbling noticeably last year and broke through the paint this spring. One of my 01's has been fixed, and the other 01 has some nice holes going.

I'm in NYC where there is an overuse of salt. I've owned a few sd's (all 5-10 years old), and there is no guideline on the rust. I've had bodies that are absolutely beat to hell, without a spot of rust around the wheelwells, and I've had mint bodies that had been rotting. Overlapping years and everything.

Probably just depends on if the inside wheel wells were not painted well, already had rust, and anything else. But I agree with the statement of "overuse of salt". Because of reckless drivers who feel the need to speed at the start of a snow storm NY (western ny) decides to unload salt to an incredible amount so they wont be sued because someone decided to drive 65 in a 55 and slipped off the road "But I have 4x4??". I know it's needed to get the road to pavement but man the amount blowing out the back of the DOT trucks is amazing. Hearing it crashing into your wheelwells as you drive over it is such an nice feeling

I have managed to keep my 2007 off of the road in the winter for the past two winters since I purchased a beater vehicle!

im in new jersey and my 2004 (knock on wood) has no rot in the fenders, cab, or bed sides. BUT my cross supports on my bed are getting BAD and my tailgate lip is finally popping on the inside. My dads 2000 crew has NO fender, door, bed side rot either? BUT it does have the bed support rot, tailgate lip rot and some spots on the cab mounts that are welded to the cab. not bad but starting to get flaky between the two pieces of steel. I do flush my truck during the winted months, after ever snow storm and evr time they re-salt the roads here

Thats funny. The time you need the truck(4x4) the most you put it away. Believe me I don't blame you one bit.

I'm just not in the position financially to buy a new one anytime soon, so I'm gonna protect this one as I need it to stay in decent shape for at least 15-20 years!......

That is what was happening to my 06 super cab. The bottoms showed minor rusting. That plus other rust, needing new tires, hubs, exhaust. I chose to put that money to fix all that into a newer one.

I purchased my 06' F-350 to work,,,Had a plow frame on it the day I brought her home,,,I have been under the cab with a needle scaler,,,the cab seems were growing cruasty looking,,,needle scaler cleaned it right up,,have done Paint, Amsoil metal prtector,,,etc,,,looks OK,,about 2 months ago,,,got out the spray/siphon hose, and the good old drain oil,,,sprayed the whole under side of the cab and bed, frame also,,,,stuck my hand up into the bed/fenderwell area,,could feel the foam in there,,I just sprayed it, flooded that seam with oil,,,No Bubbles yet at either fenderwell,,and thats how I like to keep it,,I also sprayed inside the Tailgate at each opening,,was dripping out, possibly spray the truck again tomorrow,,,will lower the spare tire this time,,,already plowed once this year,,before Halloween, 4.5 "of snow,,,Rust Never Sleeps !!

Lots of people buy a $300-800 beater in the fall and sell it in the spring for $100-200 less. Not a bad deal. I used to do that and had lots of fun with a different car every winter until I got the one I have now. However with the kids I have been keeping my eye open for the 4 door awd wagon version of my civic.
