Need to check screens in my fuel tank on a 1999 f-250 7.3 shortbed. Whats involved do I need any special tools. Is there any instruction on how to do it available ?
I cleaned my strainers and did not do any modification. The truck had about 200,000 miles on it at the time, so if the original configuration was good till than, I figured out it will be good for another 200-500k.
It was easy with my dumpbed, since I didn't have to drop the tank. Once the strainers were out, they easy cleaned with compressed air.
One trick I would add is that if you do open your tank, place the plastic ring in the sun while you have it off. It is a pain to thread back on (mostly trial and error) before you even get to tighten it back down (I used the 2x4 and plastic mallet trick to tighten it).
It is a very tight fit on the threads and keeping the ring warm will make it a little more pliable to fit it back on.
