will not get gas to the carb .

i just put my new gas tank in and put about 3-3.5 gallons of gas in the tank and the truck will not start ( no fuel getting to the carb ) it will run if i put the fuel line in a gallon container so i know that the fuel pump is working . do i need more gas in the tank ? i did check the gas lines and there are no kinks coming from the tank to the fuel pump . any thoughts ?

Try it with the cap off to check for the venting.

yes ,the tank is vented . and no mine does not have a shut off valve . so i am kind of stuck as to what the problem is . it is a bob drake tank that is made overseas , nice quality and the overall fit was good . this really has me puzzled unless i am wrong 3-3.5 gallons should be enough too start the truck . any other thoughts ? thanks .

Where are you disconnecting the hose from, to put it in the container the truck is running off of? Also where is you tank mounted? You may have an air bubble trapped in the line. Is your gas tank setup so you can pull the fuel hose and let it drain into a can so you know you have flow? Could there be a piece of something stuck in the fuel line?

Might check your rubber hoses where they conect the copperlines together to see if they are collapsed inside. had that happen to me once

Fuel filter. Do you have gas flowing AFTER the filter? I put one in backwards once....... once.

hey guys , i am going to try to answer all the questions that you have asked (thanks for all your input on this ). the fuel tank is mounted in the stock location under the cab without a gas cap . i have not installed a fuel filter yet i will put one on though at a later date i learned that lesson on my model a . as for the lines i ran 1/4 inch steel from the outlet on the tank ( that was the fitting size that came new from drakes ) for about 8 inches then changed it to 5/16 steel until it comes to the front upper control arm area from there i went with neoprene ( easier to bend around stuff ) straight to the fuel pump . it will run if i pull the neoprene hose off the steel line and put the neoprene hose which is about 2.5 ft long in the gas can that is on the floor in front of the tire . i am leaning too the thought that it has to be something in the steel lines or maybe the pickup tube inside the tank itself , assuming that they installed a pickup tube when they made the tank . at this stage i am going too fire up the air compressor and shoot some air back into the gas tank . any other ideas guys ? thanks.

Air pressure will definetly tell you if you have an obstruction in the lines. Since you ran new lines I would be there is something in the tank blocking the outlet.

Your truck is newer than mine, when you say pickup tube does that mean the fuel line goes in the top?

Try pulling the fuel line off at the carb, then useing a catch container like a bottle or something similar to run the gas line into. Then crank the engine, and see if there is fuel comming from the line.
If so then its a problem in the carb, maybe a blockage or, whatever.

Be sure prior to doing this pull the coil wire, just in case it does start you won't get a fire going. 3-3.5 Gal should be enough to draw up to the engine. Also if you have a sediment bowl on the fuel pump make sure the glass bowl is seated properly against the either neopreme , or cork gasket. This can often contribute to the problem.

hey guys . i just did the blowing air back into the tank trick . it has a clean line because it blew the tissue that i had in the filler tube out onto the floor . yes christopher2 my pickup tube is located at the top of the tank . 5 star i have been doing what you suggested . nothing from the tank but plenty of fuel when i use the gallon gas can . so i guess it has to be something to do with the tank itself . i have never had this type of problem before with all the vehicles i have done .

I had a poly tank on mine before I switched to the 7- Mustang tank; my poly tank had two fitting on the top one for the fuel line and one for an over flow or vent tube. Unscrew and check the tank fitting to ensure it has a pick-up tube in it, at this point it sounds like the only thing it could be.
