autolite 4350

Hello, Im a first time poster in this forum, I spend most of my time up in the 6.0 powerstroke forum. Anyway, I bought a boat that has a 460 motor and an autolite 4350 carb. I know this is a truck forum, but I have researched and found that this carb is common in the 76-79 F-series trucks. We took the boat out and burned through 20 gallons of gas in about 1.5 hrs of running it. I know that this isnt the mostfuelefficient motor ever put into production, but this seems a bit much. Can anyone offer any advice as far as tuning this carb to maybe make it a bit more efficient, or should I buy some stock in Conoco and several extra gas cans?

I would think that would be about expected if the motor seems to be running properly. That 460 never gets a break in the water its nothing but work and I'm sure you dont baby it.

Well. I get 7.3 miles a gallon out of mine. And I'll bet you have a cam some good compression, heads and an intake on that sucker. However I switched out from that same carb to an Edelbrock 1407 750 cfm and my mileage went up quite a bit. I was getting somewhere around 5 before. Unless that motor runs just perfect. Might be worth it to swap her out if that motors had some work done to it.

Boat motors aren't usaully models for fuel efficiency. My girlfriend's stepdad has a boat with a built 454 and a double pumper. We went through $148 in gas in 4 hours.

If nothing else, pull a plug and see how the mixture is doing. This motor won't have catcons, and if you're not used to the smell that can do it. Plus IMHO having the water right at the exhaust usaully makes it smell more.
