Dave here, I am glad that worked! I am going to try myself the same thing and jump the one on the fender well. I too will let folks know the outcome. Went to prayer group meeting this morning and tried to get the Ford on the list, to no avail. I do appreciate the FTE website. Any other ideas appreciated, will advise after trying the above. Dave
Dave Again, went outside and did get started by jumping big posts on starter relay on fender well. Then checked little wire in start position and had 12 volts. So I am guessing starter relay on fender well is bad. Will go to Auto Zone tonight and get one. About 55 miles away. Will advise if fixed it. Thanks to all. Dave
Dave here another time, had guy pick up at auto parts and does not look good. Went around and found Napa Echlin brand ST 404 for about $25.00. Was wondering if someone had a different part number. Called Auto Zone and guy was lost. Going early in morning to buy Napa part and will post info when it works. If anyone has another part number, please advise. Thanks. Dave
After three trips to the parts house I finally did get the correct starter relay, on the passenger side fender, for my 1999 Ford F250 PSD. This is a Airtex XP, part #1M1090A. The A is supposed to mean Heavy Duty. I ended up calling the tech line and the guy there is the one that told me I had the wrong part, might have worked with rigging but with the correct part, no rigging. This did fix my truck where it would start. I am hopping that if someone has the same problem, this may help them. Part cost about $25.00. Thanks to all who responded. Dave
Well i went to Advanced auto and got one for about 25 bucks.... Thier brand was BWD and the part # was S5049Z. It had 2 small posts on it but the directions are clear... Now if I can only get the freaken time to due it... My daughters VW cabriolet's cooling fan quit on a 4hr trip... had to keep moving or it would over heat in traffic... Well she needs the car so she's first in line.....
Let ya know how my problem turns out (truck)...steve
Steve, Be sure to siconnect the Negative on both batteries. Will take about 5 minutes to replace. I did however take a wire brush to connections. Instructions should tell you what terminal to use. Mine was the one what I call "on top". Waiting to hear your results. Dave
Update: The soloniode from advanced auto was cross referenced with the ford part #.
The one from the factory came with 2 large posts and a smaller post..The one from advanced auto came with 2 large- 2 small posts... The directions are specific and you only use the larger of the 2 smaller posts for the smaller wire that gets attached... The other smaller post is not used...
Well last knight I connected it up, I tried to match the clocking of the mounting flange, but not sure, I was in a hurry....
Well I hooked it up and ZERO.............................. I had to jump the terminals and start it to move the truck....
I will check further bu Sunday night and report...
Hell I may as well make it into one of the new cars and use a horn button for the "push button" start if all fails..
More to come...stev
Steve, You have to make sure you have in the same holes on the mounting. If you have the correct one, should be heavy duty type, mine was a different color. If you read my posts I got the wrong one twice. If you get the correct one, even if it has four or two small terminals, you should be able to use the same 8mm holes for mounting and the little post that is closest to the top. Very cut and dry, again, I buffed the terminal eyelets and made sure everything clean. Call me if I can help. 806-786-5137. I was very frustrated too. Now it works, yours can too!!! Dave
Well the weekend has ended,,,, good news.
I removed the solonoid and re traced my steps. I did install it correctly. I tried to start it and nothing....... Well I went unser the truck to the neutral safety \ linkage. I just played around with it to learn about what I was looking at and the function. What I noticed was that the shaft was not bringing the unit all the way to where it was supose to be (by a tiny bit).. so i pulled it to the end and made it stay....... BINGO....
Apparently when I parked my truck on a hill, It must of jumped a slot on the linkage when I took it out of park keeping it from going into the neutral position upon placing it in park again when shutting it down. I got in the truck and held the lever to the left and it started... whew...
So it may not have been the solonoid but that neutral safety position.. Either way I learned more about my truck..... We learn every day either buy hard kocks or the internet......
Thanks for the help, I am more knowledgeable now thanks to the help.
Have a great summer and if i have problems I know where to turn,
