Hi, Today gettingready to come home from vacation and went to start my f350-7.3 and NOTHING, All the lights go on and not even a click from the starter..... I checked the power to the starter--ok, banged on the starter, and tapped the soilonoid---nothin,,,, Checked fuses, any sugestions..thanks--truck was left behind....
Yes I tryed to jump it,, All dash lights and glow plug solonoid was powered up. Its just when I went to start it there was nothing... no clicking from the started.... all the fuses were checked all were good...Didn't know if it was a relay and if it was which one is it..... Oh and it was at my camp,, hahah
I thought I would ask the group because the only thing I can think of is the solinoid on the starter.
The truck was parked on the side of a bank with the driver side on the high side. Don't know if the angle has caused the neutral switch to get stuck....hmmmmm don't have a clue
If it is manual -check the clutch switch. There is much more in modern engines that affects the starter than just battery and ignition switch.
Good luck
I have a 99 F250 PSD with same thing. Where is the Neutral Safety Switch? Just bypass or what? Nothing trys to start, went back today and after reading 20 pages worth on FTE this morning, did locate the starter relay on the passenger fender and went under and tapped on starter and starter sol. Where and what to try and bypass? Thanks. Dave
In the days with a soilenoid on the fender well you use to be able to cross the posts with a screw driver and it would crank the starter--- not now! I hate the new crap
Have you checked the cable to the starter. My 98 F150 had the same problem and the lug that connected to the starter was corroded and almost gone. They replaced the lug and walla it worked.
Went and towed the the truck home. Tried the voltage on batteries, 12.53, two years old, crawled under truck and sparked the solenid on the starter, lots of fire but that was all. Also tapped the netural safety switch on side of trans. Nothing yet. Should I go ahead and replace the netural safety switch? Not sure what to do but need to get running. Thanks for reply. Dave
Well I went and took the advise from you guys and looked for the solnoid.. Yup on the inner fender well on the pass. side. Well back in the day I use to jump that sucker--little post and power post to the starter... It cranked---- I charged up the batt: turn the key on and it fired up... This allowed me to get this jessi home where my tools are....So tomorrow i am replacing that thing with a new one and I should be all set.....I will let cha know how it settles out..
Thanks for the help from you all, I appreciate it very much... More to follow tomorrow......steve s.

Glad to hear you got her fixed!!! Well, temporarily at least!! I used to plow with my '87 and used the Ford starter solenoid for my Meyers plow. I used to have to carry around a spare solenoid in the glove box because with two of those on the fender, it wasn't long before I had to replace one of those things!!
Oh, and the aftermarket ones were like $12 and the Meyers were like $50!!
