Clapping, no, not applause.

Just replaced my front warped brake rotors and pads. Purchased Bosch (with hub for my 2WD Excursion) rotors, and high performance pads. Made sure all parts were screwed back together nice and tight.

Took truck for a spin, and these new rotors were warped! Right out of the box? Label says "Made in China." Great.

Worse, I get a metallic "clapping" in sync with the pulsating when braking. WTH?

Quick poll -- any ideas? (Besides taking these damn Chi-com crap rotors back??!!)

Can you confirm that the rear rotors that you did not change aren't warped? Both front and rear rotors will warp. If both ends are warped and you replace one end, the other is still warped.

Not to hijack, but what will it feel like when the rear is warped?

In my personal experience, warped rear rotors feels just as if they were front warped rotors but less pronounced. Allow me to clarify; I knew I had warped rotors somewhere despite my after-market rotors and pads and proper break-in procedure. I could feel the pulse on the steering wheel but not on the floor board where one would imagine it would come from IF it were the front rotors that were warped.

Turns out that, yes, your rear rotors do warp even though they claim that 2/3 of braking is done at the front wheels. I still have OEM rotors in the back but after market pads on all 4 wheels. I've put in almost 35,000 miles and braking is still as smooth as the day I had the rear rotors turned.

Drive Safe,

Dan

I don't feel it in the steering wheel. Just the floor and stuff.

Not sure what your options are for the rotors (what kind of warrantee they have) and the clapping could be so many different things, but it's not unheard of for brand new rotors, right out of the box, needing to be true'd up a bit on the lathe before being installed.

On all the rotor replacements I've done on my vehicles over these past 28 years, I've only run into one set of rotors needing to be hit on the lathe before installation. But my buddy who owns a brake and tire shop, and who does brakes all day long, say's it happens more than people realize.
