NO START

2003 6.0L

Tried to start it this morning and sounds like a woodpecker in a tin can. Anything last ideas before I pull the starter? I looked in the tech folder and there is not much info regarding starter problems.

Yup. Engine doesn't turn over, but starter is doing something.

Ok, so the motor is NOT turning over.

Batt's fully charged? Check wire on the starter before pulling it out.

Correct, engine does NOT turn. Batteries are good.

Recheck your batts.sounds like there's not enough to engage the starter and its clicking on the ring gear.could be a bad connection too.

There is a no-start troubleshooting thread in the Tech Folder. In that thread it tells you an easy way to get poer directly to the starter. If it doesn't turn ober that way, it is either your batteries or the starter.

There is a yellow with light blue striped colored wire adjacent to the passenger side battery in the engine compartment, near the vacuum pump that has a "squeeze-and-pull" type connection. Disconnect it, and jump the male end of the connector to the passenger side battery positive terminal. The starter should crank when you do this.

edit - I guess a hydrolocked condition could also prevent it from cranking w/ this trick.
