Why would new injectors hydrolock a cylinder, low compression on that particular would just make it harder to hydrolock wouldn't it. I'm thinking there had to be some slack in the wristpin, bad rod bearing or busted piston skirt.

well the possibility of a busted piston skirt is certainly there. A lack of compression would prevent ignition, where with old injectors probly allowed such small amount of fuel in that it was able to slip down past piston but with full amount of fuel it just stacked up till hydrolocing and broke rod just below wrist pin.

If the exhaust valve was opening like it should the diesel would be pushed out the exhaust every compression stroke, there would be no build up just raw fuel in the exhaust pipe.

Old injectors actually let in more fuel in because the holes are worn larger and stay open longer due to worn springs. The performance gain you see from new ones comes from better atomization.

I have not heard of a 7.3 failing like that without some other major factors being involved. New injectors should not send a rod through the block. Did the engine experience high RPMs or heat conditions at any point after the injector swap? The most likely result of compression being too high is head gasket failure.

no it did not see high rpms nor did it get hot only drove for 2 miles or so. no need to ponder on why though, it happened so now i will be replacing the motor. a buddy found one about three hours from here for 350 bucks with only 155,000 miles on it. hopefuly its still there when i get the cash scraped up.
