I have a 6.9 that I am rebuilding it decided to drink 1 1/2 gallons of oil in less than 200 miles I am most of the way through the tear down I have a head that might be bad it has a small crack between the pre-chamber and the main cylinder area next to the opening... So I'm looking for another set of heads anyway to the point I am planning on putting
1.Stage 1 injectors
2.Hypermax pulse turbo kit
3. .30 over bore
4.And with the new heads ported and polished
5. A head stud kit
6.new oil and water pumps
Anything anyone suggest what I should do?
And does anyone have any idea what kinda power I might expect?
Stage 1 injectors are from DPS i me thinks, but I'm not sure your pump can keep up with those injectors, but if you did get them you are set to upgrade the pump. As far as power I think hypermax is a little high on the rating but they claim 250hp, and maybe go with their exhaust, I have it and I like it. Maybe try the cowl induction also,(and let me know how it works!)
The process for the rebuild will take some time but everything will stay updated my buddy's stock pump turned up a few turns pushes alot of fuel he can lay the smoke and put some power to the wheels when he wants to but he has no turbo... I figured since I'm studding the heads I can push it up to around 15 psi max I was reading a few things should I put a better cam in it too? I'm wanting better mpg and I am wanting it to still be reliable enough to be an daily driver..... I am now 1 step more into the tear down my number 5&6 rod bearings had alot more copper showing than any others does that mean the oil passage might be partially clogged? All bearings had a pretty decent coat of oil on them.... Tomorrow I plan on removing the crank and checking the mains but overall so far other than the heads I can't see any big issues... I'm also wondering since I am starting completely fresh should I go synthetic? I know rottela is a good oil I have run it for years but I am just trying to get some opinions
If your going to do an overbore, watch how far you go, like most all of us know, the 7.3 is notorious for having cavitation for too thin of a block....

He gots a 6.9!
Oh and some advice from when i did my head gaskets, if you left the trans in the turbo, up pipes and turbo mount sould be kept off when putting the motor back in because the turbo will hit the cowl when you try to slide it in. But since the motor is out get that firewall lip nice and flat so you have clearance for the downpipe.
If you have grooves, I would just give it a good honing or a .010 overbore at most. 84 6.9, even though he has a 6.9, he might bore it over too much, which everyone knows that nobody wants to have happen. I was just forewarning him.
