@Y2KW57 , I wasn't trying to throw shade on @rvborgh1 by bringing up the age of the thread but your point is well taken. Reps sent to rvborgh1 as well.
@rvborgh1 , the thread you replied to is 9 years old but your information is much appreciated. It sounds like you have delved deeper into OBD2 than most of us shadetree mechanics on here have.
Sorry for the necromancy, but it is warranted.
I just brought my truck in for emissions testing in CT and the operator said the truck died 3 times after connecting the OBD2 connector.
They got new equipment and maybe the invalid OBD2 protocol is the default. But I suspect more old diesel trucks will be falsely failed.
I brought mine to another emissions center were they tested it jus tailpipe opacity and it passed.
As far as I know you aren't supposed to have a vehicle running when you hook up an obd scanner, just have the key in the run position.

Take your e-mail off the thread, you will be getting e-mails for years to come from people you do not know or want to know. Ask the Admins and they can remove it.
Get information from the forums or privately.
Re-read the whole thread.. Standard OBDII Readers Do Not work correctly (speak the same language) on the '99-03, 7.3s.
