I agree, its one hell of a toy & can be used to work. Ive bounced back to the idea of building a pickup off of a deuce (axles, suspension & frame) rather than just using run of the mill 3/4t & 1t truck parts. I have found one company that says they can make rims for the axles in 22.5" so I can run semi tires rather than 15" or 16" pickup rims & still keep the load cap. up there.
Sounds like allot of work just to run bigger tires to me. But hey, it's that part of the game...run the biggest tire that you can squeeze into the wheel wells?
Finally found the photo I was looking for.
It maybe ugly, but with a tweaked C12 under the hood, I know it will roll 'em down the highway and fly up the mountains. Seems like the early ones had a bad habit of cracking the block. They were starting to cycle through the dealership shop here in FSM back in '40/'05 near the end of my Caterpillar career. I think they figured out the frame of the truck was flexing more than the engine could take. Not really wanting to run the biggest tire I can stuff in the wheel wells. If I wanted that I would just run 53" military tires or 54" boggers. More or less going for an over built (insanely but possibly stupidly over built) 1 ton truck. With me breaking a D44 & slightly messing up a 9" with a 351m & a friend of mine scattering several D44s & D60s under his 3/4t with a wore out 400, I just dont want to rebuild an axle after putting some decent money to it. Plan ahead & over build for what I need & foresee what I will need out of a 1t down the road.
It is ugly as sin but Im sure its a beast.
And on the subject of frame flex, in a street (maybe gravel road) pulling truck, a stiff frame is ok but playing off road or a truck that is a daily driver/weekend toy, I would want some flex. Then again a video made by chevy about chevys is gonna make the chevy sound better than everything else.

That takes talent to break a Dana 60, and a Ford 9 isn't exactly a soft axle. I've never scattered/shelled an axle...through I did make a pretzel out of a drive-shaft in a T800 Pulling a 320C out of a sloppy job-site can be challenging.

You want frame flex for just about any ride, that T800 I used to haul machines with had more flex than either of those SD. Personally I think the Chubby was/is too stiff. Though neither motor is putting 1500 pounds of torque out like that C12 would. So I guess they don't need to worry about the heavy twisting effort of the mill under the hood. I bet Jeff's PuppyDog R-body has more flex than those SD.

I'm waiting for the Dodge camp to come up with some form of crap blasting both Ford & GM. I like Sam Elliot as an actor (did a hell of a job in both Tombstone & Ghost-rider)...but not as a pitchman. Got a guy at work that's a Ram-head; Saturday night he was trying to convince me his 2500 would out pull me on a hill. I ran out of BS cards before he ran out of breath.
I should have been outside mowing this morning but a nap was more important.
I make it a point to try to make everything more important than mowing.

Ouch.. any idea whats wrong?
A few weeks ago, my dad's outside compressor stopped kicking on. Come to find out, ants had gotten up in the contacts of a relay and gotten fried.
Nothing a little sandpaper and bug granules wouldn't fix.
