Okay so I'm going to be replacing all 8 injectors in my dads 2002 F-250 and I have a few questions. From what I've read on here, the #8 injector is a "long lead" AE injector. Is it necessary to replace this injector with another AE injector? I'm going to order them from riffraff and didn't know wether I should order 8 AD injectors or replace the AE injector. I am also planning on replacing the UVCH. Does the harness just plug in and is it very hard to replace? Also are the valve cover gaskets re-useable or do I need to plan on replacing those as well? Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks,
Kevin
I do not believe the AE in #8 is true for all engines. Neither of my trucks have an AE in #8 so your dad's may not either. (Too bad too because I wanted to take that one apart and see the mechanical differences with my own eyes.) My suspicion is that the injectors themselves are exactly the same and the only difference is the solenoid but I don't really know for sure...
At any rate, I think you are fine going with all ADs but you can call Clay to be sure. I think the AE injector was placed in some engines to resolve a noise issue. Installing an FRx is a better solution than going with an AE anyway IMO.
The valve covers and under cover harnesses are re-usable and they last a long time. The only reason to replace them is if they leak or have some sort of electrical failure (such as a burned center pin or wire insulation wear from rocker arm etc). I've replaced the harness and gasket on the right side due to a burned center pin but the left side of my engine still sports the original parts (275k miles...)
Good time to replace the glow plugs since you are in there. They do wear out eventually.
If you run an FRx or other type of regulated return you can use all 'AD' injectors. Either way it is recommended to run something for the fuel system to let the air back to the tank.
Thanks for the reply! I think ill probably just go with all AD's. I know for a fact the early 99 motors didn't have an AE in the number 8 hole so I see no problem not putting one back in. The truck has 485,000 miles on it which is why I was just going to replace the UVCH. I don't know if it has ever been messed with or not but I was just planning on replacing them for good measure...but maybe I don't need too. Do you think the valve cover gaskets will be okay on a motor with that many miles? I know it has had an injector or 2 replaced a while back so there is the possibility that they have been replaced. And I was planning on sticking 8 new glow plugs in while I was at it.

Since the truck has so many miles on it I wasn't planning on putting a FRx on it...so maybe I should put an AE injector back in?
