Mix Oil Brands?

Walmart never has enough Rotella Full Syn so I decide to buy the last three gallons on shelf plus Mobil 1 Full Syn for diesels. I feel like I should know this but I suppose it doesn't make a real signficant difference if I combine the different brands. Right?

I doubt it makes any difference what-so-ever. I bet Shell or Mobil will tell you differently though.

On my last change, I switched to Motorcraft oil after running Rotella T for ages. There was as about 2 1/2-3 qts of Rotella still in my engine (heads/hpop etc) when I poured in the Motorcraft...so by default I've mixed brands of oil anyway.

Wrong. Always try and use the same oils period. Now that said when you change brands you will always have some of the old brand oil in your engine. And with our trucks more then other because of the high pressure resivor. But your talking four quarts, a gallon. Just wait and find one more gallon or buy all mobil 1 syn. If I was low on oil with a leak or some thing then maybe I'd do what you want for a short period of time. But why do this for 5 or 10,000 miles between changes. They should all mix but they are still made with different chemicals then the other brand so why do it just because one store runs out. My 2 cents Chet

Both you guys make sense. I just can't imagine two high quality oils of the same genre having any real chemical reactions causing a loss in effeciency especially in a gross broad engine function. But I bet someone knows the empirical data on such....ahh...doubt it. Though...yes...I would always think it best to use one brand.
