Amsoil and the API logo

Hey guys! This thread really turned out to be the combination platter! Oil, Dodge vans and lawnmowers! But it's good to hear from some Amsoil users who aren't ready to declare jihaad on the rest of us poor infidels!

About the only things I'd like to add that havn't already been said:

What really impressed me the most with Amsoil's written response was their eagerness to to take legal action against potential customers, auto dealerships. I mean really, if you have a serious stake in the business, why would you want to alienate yourself from such a huge potential slice of the market? Why would you even feel the need to make such threats if your product and it's implied warranties were valid? (I hope Amsoil's spy's don't read this. I sure don't wanna get sued.)

It seems to me that if Amsoil just complied with the industry standards for certification, it would be a level playing field. We would not have to try to compare apples to oranges.

The biggest problem we have on this board is Amsoil user's who run around pushing it in everyone's face and turning every thread into an Amsoil debate. All the rest of us here acknowledge there are many good oils, both dino and synthetic. We are able to discuss the merits of them all without blowing the bugle for our favorite brand in every thread. Yet the Amsoil guys only speak of their brand to the exclusion of all others. What kind of a cult did you guys buy into? Just nod if you need help. We know you are hostages

One other thing, why does everyone say that PAO synthetic's reduce our dependance on foreign oil? They are still manufactured with petrochemical feedstocks.

Scott

Bob on my Honda mower you just put it on it's side and the oil comes out quick. No tools,no fuss.I changing it twice because it's easy and that engine works hard and I have a 5qt jug of Mobil 1.

I use Amsoil and don't push it on others. In fact the Amsoil user is put on the spot here.I don't make a nickle if anyone uses it or not.
Hey!I use Zaino polish products too!Another controversial product.
All oils both dino and synthetic work well. It's just preference.I've been using Amsoil for many years.I haven't had a problem.
As far as why Amsoil doesn't get an API rating on their oil?
I guess they don't have to bother. It's been 30+ years and things must be ok.There still in business.
I don't feel I was blwing my Amsoil horn.If I did I apolgize.I didn't mean to.Perhaps I was responding to the API issue which an Amsoil user always hears.Yet never hears of anyone having a problem with Amsoil other than urban legend stories.

You sound an awful lot like a dealer. We've seen so many of them over the years and the script is usually the same. If you're not, sorry... but it sure does quack like a duck.

Question Amsoil and the API logo

What really impressed me the most with Amsoil's written response was their eagerness to to take legal action against potential customers......
Scott, I noticed that too and I thought it to be inconsistent with what Amsoil had to say about some of its oils not being API certified because its "too expensive".

If Amsoil considers the certification process to be too expensive, then wait until they get a whiff of the cost of litigation!

I'm not a dealer.
I like the product. It has served me well for many years.

I don't care if it's API certified or not.

Where's that quote from?

"If Amsoil considers the certification process to be too expensive, then wait until they get a whiff of the cost of litigation!"

30+ years Amsoil's been selling their product.
Seems litigation costs are not a problem.
How many cases have they lost?
Have they had?

See statements like this cause some to think everyone who likes Amsoil is a dealer. We have to defend the use of the stuff.
You type things to make us Amsoil users look foolish because we're using an oil that's not API certified.
Yet with all the talk of litigation and voiding waranties and such the company is still in existence for over 30 years.
Why?
If the product was so bad the company would be gone.

"The fact is there never has been an engine failure attributed to the non-performance of AMSOIL products, and we do not expect there ever will be."

Use what you like...as you can see...I do!

I also am sold on AMS Oil products.
I started using them over 10 years ago in my then new 1993 F150 with the 5.0. I used not only their 15W40 engine oil but also their tranny fluid, gear lube, and grease.
When a woman tried to park her Intrepid under the Ford in December 2002 the truck had 340,459 miles on it with the only engine work being a new oil pan in 1997 and a new rear main seal while the pan was off. I also replaced the front transmission input seal since it was seeping fairly badly.
The engine oil and filter was always changed at 10,000 miles with another filter at 5000 miles, tranny fluid and filter at 50,000 miles along with draining and refilling the rear axle.

I have also used all AMS Oil products at the golf courses I have worked at over the past 10 years and I will continue to do so because of the time and money saved by extending the oil drain times. I use 10W30 in all gasoline powered equipment except the two cysle stuff which gets their 50 to 1 two cycle oil and 15W40 in all diesel engine powered equipment

And yes I am a "dealer" because I apparently use enough of their products to make it worth their while. I started out as a commercial account but asked for and was granted dealer status simply because of the lower price I now pay. However, I do not and will not sell to others because I am not a salesman just a satisfied Turf Equipment Manager/Technician.
