Back when i first got my truck (before i knew anything about our trucks, please don't make fun of me!!! lol) i bought an Edge Evolution programmer. Plugged it in, and it wouldn't comuicate with my ECM... After doing research, i got alot of ppl saying Edge is crap, so I just sent it back, thinking it was the programmer. when i got my injectors checked out, the mechanic couldn't get his diagnostic machine to communicate either. his exact words were, "brother, you got some serious electrical problems, cause i can barely even get this reader to turn on." And that was about all he had to say about it. Which brings me to my point. I don't know a whole lot about the electrical side of our trucks, and i don't wanna spend a huge amount of money figuring out the ECM thing at a shop. So where's the best place to start trying to sort this out myself?
Unless you're pcm has been flashed with an update, if its the 94 in your pic, the obdII port won't work. It has a different hookup under the hood iirc.
yeah, when i tried the edge, i just used the port under the dash, but the mech tried both the one under dash and under hood, and had the same result. does this mean that i might not have electrical problems, i just need to flash the PCM??? as far as how the truck runs, it's running perfectly (as far as i know, but i'm guessing it's had these problems since before i got the truck, so maybe im just used to messed up), other than the fact that none of the readers or programmers will register & vice versa.
I think your truck is fine. Unless the scanner is made especially for a PSD, it likely won't communicate with your truck since your truck isn't an OBD II compliant vehicle. If it runs fine, I say just don't worry about it. Most of the scanners and code readers you find out there will not work on our trucks. You should be fine. Save your pennies and get a chip from one of the site sponsors on here. They can hook you up with a chip that WILL work on that truck.
okay... well i guess that makes sense, cause i want to get tunes anyways, so worst case, i get the tunes, try em, find out the ECM is actually messed up, then at least i have the tunes and know what needs fixed... lol
Yeah and if you need something to read codes and streaming PCM data, you may want to look into a scangauge. I can't say for sure that it will work with your PCM, but if not, you can have your PCM re-flashed by the dealer to the latest and greatest codes and then the scangauge will work for sure. Quite a few on here have them and seem to be very happy with them.
ok, well that almost makes me feel good, other than the fact that i actually paid the mechanic that said it was broke for his work on my injector... which is a sore subject in the first place... oh, well, you live you learn, and when in doubt, i've learned to trust the good ppl here! lol
thanks alot man, reps sent for the help! and you're not kidding! when i first joined, i knew nothing about anything on these trucks, and with the help of the guys on this forum, i've learned A LOT, and have been able to do quite a bit of work on my truck that i never would have been able to do without these guys!
No problem man. I'm glad to help on the ones where I can. It's the least I can do after having been in the same boat and learning SO much about these engines.
