I have a 1988 F150 with calibration code 7-54J-R11. The ECM in the truck now is a E8TF-12A650-F2A but no local parts store has one. I bought the truck usted in 1997 so I don't have any way to be sure that this is the ECM that origionally came in the truck. Can the correct ECM be determined using the calibration #? The truck has a 302 with 4 speed automatic. Some strores say that maybe a E8TF-FA ECM will work. None of them recognize the long number. There is also a 8PV in large letters on the label of the current ECM and on the back of the unit.

Looks like the one you have is probably original. There is one on ebay that matches.

The Ford part numbers for your computer are E7TZ-12A650-AUB and E8TZ-12A650-FA.
But this is not the number on the computer as only Ford dealers parts department goes by the part number.
The drawing number that is on the unit would be E7TF-12A650-AUB and E8TF-12A650-FA.
Most drop the base part number of 12A650 as all Ford computers have the base number in them.
So you are looking for a computer at an auto part store or on line with a number of E7TF-AUB or a E8TF-FA.
At a salvage yard a E7TF-12A650-AUB or a E8TF-12A650-FA as they go by the number on the unit.

</FIGURE><SECTION id=ecxpostingbody>We purchased this Bronco about 6 months ago. It is a super sweet vintage ride with a custom paint job from the 80s. The back window rolls down for perfect beach or camping trips!!

When we bought it, the owner told us that once every six months or so, the truck wouldn't start. Leave it for 10 minutes, try it again and it starts right up. Well it happens more often than once every six months. We have had it in the shop for a month and our mechanic has no clue whats wrong with it. He can't find a problem. The last owner had the engine replaced, so it may have something to do with that. This needs to go to a Bronco lover that has the time for a project. We just don't have time to deal with it.

 

More than likely it has a bad computer.
But could also be the PIP sensor or the ICM.

this a Old post...... My 88 Ford f150 4x4 has missing ecu as
it is gone from vehicle, I put a van ecu in it and starts but idles rough, has Calibration Code 7-54J-R11 aswell So Above pcms what I need? Any way have a list all that will work? Thanks.

It is about $60 dollars for a used PCM from the junkyard if you buy the 90 day warranty. For another $40 you could have a reman computer with a 1 year warranty. Yes it cost more but if the truck wasn’t wrecked why is it in the junkyard? More than once I have seen a vehicle in the junkyard with a bunch of new new engine sensors.

 

What motor, trans in your truck? The Calibration code you gave, is that from your truck, found on driver door jamb? or is that from the van? you need the calibration code from your truck.
