Issues with my E40D

Ok it started shifting hard so i serviced it. Well its now worse it shifts extremely hard and when trying to hold a steady speed it shifts through random gears. Sometimes when i stop it will not drop back to 1st! I have to put it in first get going then it will slam through the gears. What seems to be my problem?

You should probably get the codes read. Is the OD light flashing?
Any problems with the tach or speedo?

My tach has been acting crazy for about 3 months it only works in high rpms but the od light has never flashed but if u push it it functions correctly I drove it a little bit ago and had to manually shift

Most likely your tach sensor. It is a large nut on the injection pump with two wires coming out of it. Check those wires for making a short. Could be your problem since it sounds like it works sometimes

Your tach sensor, or tach itself acting up will cause your tranny to search for gears and go into the wrong gears. Make sure that your OD light works and that it is not blinking. If it is not working(the bulb could be out) get your codes read and that will help with the problem. Since your tach is acting up i am guessing tach sensor. If your speedo is not working correctly either that will cause your tranny to act up also.

It uses info from the tach sensor, the VSS (vehicle speed sensor), and the throttle position to determine which gear to be in, and the shift points. If any of these are messed up, the E4OD can get very confused...

There are other signals taken from the brake lights, barometric pressure sensor, and manual lever position snesor.
