this just started happening. my baby is shifting super hard
it does it from a dead stop, 1st to 2nd. very hard shift. gets better the higher up in gears. if i start off in second gear, and then shift back to drive after 1st gear shift (20-25 MPH) its a lot better and i dont experience the hard shift.
also, shifting into reverse or into drive has a clunking noise and a very hard jerk to go along with it.
im no expert but how many miles are on it? it could just be getting wore out mine had some hard shifts esp 1st to 2nd i put some lucas tranny fix in it( it supposed to help tranny slip and hard shifts) it has helped greatly in my case!

it has 113,000 miles on it.

First check codes.
Could be MLPS, RABS,or TPS.
If you search you can find alot of info.
thats what ive been hearing. ill check the codes. but do you think its electronical or mechanical
No only thing I don't do myself is alignments and tires.
I did not use a code reader for the MLPS. I was just told on another website that was what was causing my issues. But you should always pull codes first before buying parts that you arnt 100% sure are bad.
mine was doing the same thing, i installed a new vss (vehicle speed sensor) on the rear differential....took about 15 minutes. also disconected my abs (rabs)........reset the computer my unhooking batt cables for a minute......never had the problem after that......could be many different problems tho....this was just my senario hope it helps
yup mine did the same thing, sometimes it would shift ok, and sometimes hard as a rock.....i bet if you swap out the vss (like 12 bucks at autozone) itll fix it, atleast its worth a shot....u dont even gotta lift up the truck and it only takes a couple minutes...and its only 1 bolt... just use pb blaster and a leverage bar on your wrench, itll pop right out. just remember to reset your computer by disconectin your battery for a bit
My 1990 Did exactly the same thing when I bought it, feels like you're getting rear ended when it shifts, especially when shifting 1st-2nd?
I checked my engine codes, my Throttle Position Sensor came up as malfunctioning, the TPS tells the E4OD when to shift, without that information it uses preset shift points, which are usually both wrong and very hard, the new TPS cost me about $25 and took only about 30 Minutes to replace, and it was completely better after that, as well as added benefits on my truck.
So I suggest looking into it. Good Luck Bud.
and get on it cuz that hard shifting can over time damage your transmission.
start with the sensor on the rear diff. remove it and wipe it clean and reinstall it and drive to see if it improves.
is your speedo working?
speedo is working, yes.

Indeed it does sir. and a bad TPS is my conclusion as well. its likely as well, since 113K has passed without any electronics being serviced.
