Hello,
I am new to the sight so not sure if I am posting this in the right place, but I have a question.
I have recently bought a 08 F 350 with the 6.4 and it has started to randomly puff white smoke and missing during acceleration. Any info on where to start the trouble shooting or possible causes would be appreciated.

dont know much about a Diesel but in a gas motor that means water in the exhaust namely a head gasket. But in a diesel it could be something with the EGR as well because they are cooled also.

White smoke in a diesel could mean that you have excess water build up in the CAC. Sometimes due to humid/rain conditions.
I could also mean that you are eating coolant.
So this is certainly something to look into a little further.
For the CAC issue you could take the lower boot off the cac and see if a bunch of water runs out.
If you are eating coolant so signs might be to check the degas bottle. Are you constantly adding coolant?
Also what about the tail pipes? Clean/Dry or are they wet. Not the wet from just starting the truck and there is condensation in the exhaust wet.
What color are the pipes..smell any coolant at the pipes?
