intermittent idle drop and white smoke
i know i have a glow plug issue which gives me white FOG (smoke) on start up.
Here recently she has started dropping idle and it will bounce between 632 and 670. When it does this she starts blowing with white smoke. This all after driving and oil temp around 180.
i am at a loss. Injector going bad? CPS failing (replaced a couple months ago)?
Ideas much appreciated.
Thanks
Dale

Hey OP, not sure if you're still having this problem... But I was. So I installed a new Motorcraft IPR tonight and it seems to be corrected. Before I was idling at around 660 RPMs, but was experiencing surges up to 700 and then back down to 640 before leveling off at around 660 for a few seconds, then repeat.
Now I'm idling between 650-660 without any surges. I'm monitoring on an Infinity in case you were wondering or didn't know.
If you were considering buying yourself a new IPR, consider holding off until I can confirm tomorrow. I only stopped and paid attention once or twice after I installed it.
I'm gonna post this up in the other thread too.

Clay has them for $175 I believe, and Bob at DieselORings has them for $205 or so I think. My family business as a small fleet of 7.3s so we keep 2 on hand. I just used one of those.
It is the most pricey of all the sensor-type parts but plays a big role it seems.
You can rebuild it also if you're willing to go that route, it's much much cheaper but a member in the other thread said he had this same issue and a rebuild didn't work, only a new one. Also the OP over there has rebuilt his already.
